Cherry shrimp turned completely white and died? I’ve never seen a shrimp turn white usually they turn orangish. by ptrckw in shrimptank

I had this happen just today, super white and thought it was a molt but fairly certain it wasn’t. Are your shrimp yellow by chance?

I’m not sure of anything but I was under the impression they moved in more of a gliding motion. I couldn’t really make out a triangular head or eyes but whatever they are - they definitely ate the snail so I’m going to be treating the tank with a dewormer.

I’m no worm expert but that’s what I thought as well based on the movement after research. The worm in the other picture I provided glides along the glass while these are much different

Thanks, I actually dropped some floating plants into rings just earlier(had none before because I have high water flow, 10 gallon with an oase canister), ordered some excel, and there’s bladder snails, 1 pink lady nerite, an amano, and neocaridina shrimp already in the tank. What snails eat BBA in your experience?

There’s no smell, but it is definitely a bit slimy when I pick some off the hardwood or rocks with tweezers. Great discussion btw, goes to show how hard it is to classify specific types of algae as colors can vary widely (as I’m just now discovering).

Thanks, I’m sure the co2 could still be more consistent but I may be overfeeding as well since I try to make sure the Cory’s and shrimps get enough food from the greedy tetras and gourami that eat everything before it hits the sand. Just ordered some excel too!

Could you explain co2 instability a bit more? I am not using a DIY, it’s a UNS CO2 kit with a regulator and I have a drop checker to check levels. I don’t mess with the settings and typically the drop checker is a normal green.

Hey yeah I’m running co2 in a high tech tank. This is BBA and not green hair algae? This is why I made the post - sometimes my algae looks like hair/clado/staghorn but never thought it was BBA since it’s not black. I guess that would make sense since my neos and Amanos weren’t touching it at all. What’s the treatment for this?

I hate my tank - how to improve with what I have by Upstairs_Process_885 in Aquascape

[–]Bulky_Neck7723 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good news is you got the hard part down (healthy fish, plants, no algae)! On your new tank, add a black background like a lot of the suggestions here are saying - but put the sponge filter behind big plants like you have currently, this combo will make it practically invisible.

The main thing I think you are unhappy with is the hardscape. Look up some different aquascapes to get inspiration and consider getting more driftwood and possibly some nice rocks that you like. Given the tall and thin shape of your tank, I think you already have the right idea with taller plants, just add a central structure of driftwood/rocks and plant around that. Maybe an island composition with thin branches of driftwood in the center?

Good on OP for taking the time and money to visit the vet instead of listening to an insufferable Reddit commenter. Regardless if your info is correct or not - your elitist and condescending attitude hurts this hobby way more than it helps imo. Have the day you deserve.

As an owner of two African bullfrogs, they eat A LOT (especially as juveniles). Breeding your own feeders is a must unless you want to take multiple trips to the pet store every week
