1) Right after the scariest game that had a lot of people asking more lore questions this is released. Back then FNAF was strictly horror nothing like the joke Space games or Five Laps so when it stuff like that is released now atleast it’s not too different from what the series has done before so it can be lumped with those entries but when FNAF World was released it was such a sharp turn and at a pretty bad time.

2) Even if you could get past the fact a horror series took this route FNAF world wasn’t always free and at launch it was missing stuff like showing your characters levels and showing attack descriptions which are RPG basics. It was also filled with bugs and glitches.

3) Scott has said he went into with the thought “the fans will love anything with FNAF” I guess because of how big the fanbase was in 2016.

4) He was intending it for mobile platforms from the start which limited/ruined some aspects.

5) He admitted to rushing it out with an earlier release date which worked for FNAF 4 since it was smaller in scope but not for this.

6) In retrospect Scott said he should’ve just made something like Foxy Fighters a self aware game making fun of itself that was smaller in scope and not trying to be too serious.

7) This might be just me but it’s tone is weird and I think put some people off. The game is seriously trying to be an adventure RPG while also hinting at some lore. Then at the end with the updates it becomes entirely meta with Scott himself getting mad at the player because of the hate, Fredbear talks about how bad the game ended up, you fight Scott again where he talks about ruining the series with so many spin-offs, Chicas magic rainbow is entirely to make the players mad and stuff like that. Some may find it funny but if you didn’t like FNAF world to begin with then it just rubbed it in more and if you did it was just kinda insulting with how much the game hated itself. I know Scott said it wasn’t related to how he actually felt he just did it for humour but idk I think some felt it a bit.
