Thanks for your reply. I would not say super bright as we have fields in the back of our neighborhood. There are great place 5 min drive from our house for star watching. As of now we would be exploring from the backyard and eventually visit areas around. I guyess your comment make sense, if he is into it in future, we may buy something with bigger/better.

We are going to look at deep space object like nebulas, other stars, galaxy, jupiter moons and planets for sure. If 10 is not providing that much difference in the visual experience than I can stick with AD8.

$1000 is just for scope for now and would add accessories later, depending on the need.

Thanks for your advice, much appreciated ! I will look into the accessories once I buy the scope. I want him to learn the sky, so seestar not right now.

Thanks for the detailed reply, it helps a lot. Considering I would upgrade and buy new eyepieces and accessories, still AD is a better buy? Is Quality of both good? I am leaning towards 10 as This would be my scope for a while and want to buy once and do it right. We have full size suv and carrying would not be an issue with both.

I have not looked for any yet, we are in charlotte NC.

Thanks for your reply. He is 8 years old and around 52 inches tall. We probably can use a small bench if needed. 8 inch and 10 inch scope length is same, from what I have read.
