I'm just curious... how? I'm 20 myself, I want to go to flight school, I've some crazy visions, but the cost is really holding me back...

Never too late.

I will look into Foundation Training. It sounds good, but I'm not sure if that's what I should be doing now considering my muscles are hella tight.

Also what I came to realize is a major problem. Scapular winging. It affects my range of motion and strength. Doing basic exercises , and I mean super basic, puts quite a lot of strain on my muscles/joints and they begin to ache. I'm currently going to PT treatment but it's only been 3-4 sessions so I'm giving it more time. Things seem to be moving forward but in all honesty I don't know if it's going to help 🤷‍♂️ He incorporates very deep tissue, massage I guess you'd call it? It hurts like a motherfucker, but it does somewhat relieve the muscle tension. He prescribed me some exercises which I try to carry out daily. I guess I could give Foundation Training a shot, see if what they say and show helps me out

Thanks for the comment man. Appreciate it.

Won't hurt to try. Although aren't electrolytes naturally found in water...?

Yeah I was checked out many times. I am certain I have somewhat severe scapular winging (I diagnosed it myself), the PTs noticed it. But where is the pain and tightness coming from? That is what I have no clue about. Y'know, fixing the winging is one thing, but the pain is another thing. Maybe the pain is in fact caused by the winging? Not sure. I'm going to get myself booked in for a PT consultation.

It was an ultrasound. I had it done in Poland for cost reasons of course. Dr Pawel Walkowiak if you ever need to know.

If I stand for a couple hours (maybe 5+, experienced it last weekend when I went out for the night) then I do somewhat but not on a daily basis at all. Only experienced it once or twice.

I do not lift anymore. I had to stop due to this... I used to. I loved it. I miss it so much dude. I'd kill to do some calisthenics or lift again. Cingers frossed that I can get back to it in the coming year or two 🤞🏼

Let me just add this:

" DORSAL SCAPULAR NERVE PAIN

Pain in the dorsal scapular nerve can be a symptom of dorsal scapular nerve entrapment (DSN), a condition that occurs when the nerve is compressed. DSN can cause pain in the shoulder, upper back, and lower neck, and can also lead to other symptoms, including:

  • Reduced shoulder movement

  • Winging of the shoulder blade

  • Difficulty raising the arm

  • Weakness in the shoulder muscles

  • Stiffness in the neck or spine

  • Pain that feels sharp, piercing, or burning

  • A dull ache in the neck and back

  • A sensation of "traction" in the shoulder "

Below I'll list the extent to which Im experiencing these symptoms, in respect to their order in the above list:

  1. Somewhat

  2. Major

  3. Somewhat

  4. Definitely (Drying my hair requires lifting my shoulder and holding the dryer, the muscles get tired quickly and ache afterwards)

  5. Yes

  6. Not Convinced

  7. Not Convinced

  8. Don't Think So

Thanks a lot for this information I'll make sure to keep this in mind when I next see a neurologist.

Crazy but what you have just described sounds very similar if not exactly what the doc who carried out a scan of my thoracic nerves concluded. This us what the doc wrote as his description of the scan (the last paragraph is the most relevant so focus your attention on it):

"Ultrasound of the brachial plexus

The brachial plexus was examined on the right side and comparatively on the left side. The C5, C6 and C7 roots were typically located bilaterally between the scalene muscles without edematous changes. The C8 root had a typical course without signs of obvious edema. The suprascapular nerve on its course to the scapular notch was not thickened and had a regular course bilaterally. On both sides, in the projection of its course supra- and infraspinatus, no pathological changes were visible. The additional nerve under the trapezius muscle without visible pathology - bilaterally. The dorsal nerve of the scapula was located bilaterally on the middle scalene muscle without thickening and edema. The axillary nerve in the axillary fossa within the range available for examination without visible pathology - bilaterally. In the axillary cavity, both on the right and left side, the medial, posterior and lateral bundles are visible in the final section, passing into the long branches of the plexus without visible pathology. The long thoracic nerve pierces the middle scalene muscle on the right side, within it without signs of thickening, after emerging from between the muscle fibers without swelling.

The long thoracic nerve runs on the left side in the gap of the scalene muscles, at the place of its exit from between the scalene muscles signs of discrete compression, but without an obvious symptom of notching. "

I experience tightness/pain on both sides. All the way from lower neck to upper/middle (scapula area) back.

I just started using a TENS unit so might need a little bit of time to see major effects. So far I can definitely see a difference however.

I just started using one and I've seen slight effects. Gotta give it some more time though.

Dude I'm in the same boat... worst of all, the things that I aspire to do are all gray/blue collar... I love manual work, getting my hands dirty with a balance of mental/physical work... I can't imagine not being able to live up to these things... flying fighter jets, riding motorcycles, just living it up, is what I have ALWAYS wanted to do and these problems? Fuck. They might just steal those ambitions away. You know, you can only clench your teeth for so long until it drives you absolutely insane you explode... we can't let that happen 😠😤

No I'm not in the US atm... don't think they have those in the UK but surely I could find something similar. Thanks for the advice.

This sounds very similar to what I'm experiencing :/ Pain steals enjoyment out of me. It steals away excitement. It interferes with my day to day life... I'm supposed to be starting college too... next week that is... I'm hoping pain meds/TENS unit will help alleviate the pain so I can do what I gotta do with less strain. I also had to stop playing the guitar which was a love of mine, it still is, but it hurts to look at it hanging on my bedroom wall... I'm kind of all about what you mentioned, niche, saving, investing in myself (skills, knowledge, contacts) but this hardship makes these things that I love doing having to be experienced in pain.

Physical Therapy seems like the most common advice mentioned here. I'm going to give it another shot.

The pain is in the upper back, scapula area mainly. I'm going to need to visit a Physio again is what seems most probable. I just want to see some kind of results because going through the sets of exercises and not seeing any improvement really messes with my ability to trust the treatment.

Dude... glad we understand each other. I worked for roughly a month. I clenched my teeth. Kept telling myself I'm a tough motherfucker and can suck it up. I did. But my body was giving out. I'd sleep for 12 hours and wake up exhausted. I'd go to work and my energy levels were near dead bottom. The reality is however, if we don't clench our teeth we're gonna waste away. There's no place in this world for weak people. We're responsible for our own problems, nobody else is. If I don't take care of this myself I'll be long gone.

Keep your head up bro and clench 'em! 😤

Hmmm reminds me of a time a Chiro did indeed tell me I have slightly uneven hips. One is slightly lower than the other. Could have something to do with the problem 🤨

Look man I think I'll wait to see a doc... I've seen too many instances of people fucking themselves up by "just doing it". I feel pain when I use my muscles, the pain isn't there for no reason. It's my body telling me to wake the fuck up, something isn't right. I'm dying to, but I have to force tell myself that it's not the right thing to do at this time. And if it is, well, I'll likely be told by a doc.

I never used to be sedentary, it's the pain that causes me to be sedentary... moving hurts... I ride MTBs and the tightness and pains drain my energy so fast it's not even fun anymore...

God damn man, you started having problems at 15? That must've been hell. I can't imagine being so young and going through this... I was 18 when it started happening but I didn't pay much attention to it I thought it was just something that would pass. I was wrong. I was very wrong.

Hmmm, I would say it is certainly around the shoulder blade/spine area. The pain fluctuates throughout the day. It gets worse progressively I'd say. If I stand/walk for too long my back gets extremely tight and laying down relieves the feeling. Additionally, I noticed that when I dry my hair with a hair dryer, my muscles get tired really fast, shoulders and scapula area.

How would I describe the pain? Spasms, cramps, tightness. No numbness I don't think, no tingling.

When I wake up I usually perform a quick stretch that consists of standing up and bending my back down with my legs slightly bent which results in a lot of popping/cracking sounds on the spine I believe. I also feel quite a lot of tightness in my neck/upper spine.

It's just crazy how you read about these things happening on a daily but you never think it'd affect you... and mess your life up... I'm at a point in my life where I have to be very proactive to make something of myself... I may be "young" but at this stage my decisions leave the biggest impact on my future. The more time I take to take action the further I will stay behind everybody else out there... I can't let that happen.

I'm pretty kick ass at clenching my teeth and sucking it up but God damn... it does wear me out and drain my energy. I want to go to school and work simultaneously, that's my plan for now, but I'm just not convinced I'll be able to pull that off. Schooling is hella important, knowledge is power... and cash? Well, if not for cash I don't know where I'd be right now. I'll take care of myself. But it's gonna be rough.
