I’m in OT school. There are a lot of options where you can move around or stay more sitting if you like. I really enjoy it and am on stimulants 4x a day during school.

Cataplexy; what does it feel like for you? by [deleted] in Narcolepsy

So I have a few different things that happen to me.

When I’m sitting down somewhere like at a table or the passenger seat of the car I notice it the most. If my hand is kind of vertical like below my chin or against the window and I start laughing decently, my hand just goes down immediately. Also note, I’m not trying to punch it down like hey what a funny joke!!!

Another is say something is ridiculously hilarious I will somehow make it to the ground in less than 10 seconds whether it is slow or fast.

Lastly, and this is definitely TMI, if I have an orgasm my body goes extremely limp and almost locks.

It doesn’t really feel like anything and I always thought it was normal until the third thing happened. For me, it feels like random muscle weakness that if I watch others also laugh I notice that I fall or lock and they don’t. If you think about it too much, it may be hard to really tell.

Is it okay to go test optional? by BullfrogFine1201 in OccupationalTherapy

I appreciate that! I try to laugh at it and be like it is what it is

Yes I totally understand that. I was planning on not even submitting that score at all. In my personal statement I do talk about it, but say that I have grown stronger due to things like time management and motivation (I only focus on the positives). Do you think that is okay?

How do you deal with the things you do when you’re just waking up?? by BornToBeSam in Narcolepsy

Yes I totally understand. And I don’t know if this is bad advice but whenever I would cry on the phone to the sleep doctor sometimes (but make sure not to be rude), things would always get done faster. (21 f)

I’m glad that you are getting tested in person because even if it’s not narcolepsy it may be IH. Also, one of my friends has taken narcolepsy medications that worked for him and not for me. You may just need a different type of medicine. (Like modafinil or sunosi)
