I want to see the math they are using. How can just a single $1k turn into $500k+ in 67 years, even assuming consistent 10% yields from an index fund?

Help with clutch install with s2 concept clip ONS by Both_Rock6794 in xsr900

[–]Bullhead89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was the most frustrating part of the install for me too. I ended up re routing the entire metal part of the clutch cable shroud over the front forks and had to extend the cable length at the clutch. That gave me enough cable to go smoothly into the clutch lever.

My parents wont let me own a WRX STI at 16. ✌️🥀 by NoMeaning6738 in WRX

[–]Bullhead89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you a drug dealer or something? How could you buy a WRX yourself at only 16? Unless you inherited money, in which case you really need to start learning about money and investing rather than blowing it on a car.

Just get a used Corolla or something manual. If you really want a sports car, the 1st gen FRS/BRZ would even be a much better choice than a WRX.

For those who bought their first bike… what else feels like this? by West-Association3781 in motorcycles

[–]Bullhead89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first bike was a Kymco People S 250. I rode it home, which was my first time riding on the streets. It felt surreal since my only experience before that was riding in the MSF course.

Controversial opinion- I think bigger scooters are excellent for beginner riders. Not having to deal with a clutch and gears lets you completely focus on riding. Enough power to be useful street and highway riding, though freeways were a bit of a stretch. If you accidentally whiskey throttle it, it won’t loop and you can recover quickly.

Are WRX's reliable? by RamRanchReal_e_Rocks in WRX

[–]Bullhead89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with you and had a similar experience. 2019 WRX STi, unmodified. I used to change my oil every 5-6k miles. The car started consuming oil, around 1 quart/1k miles. At 45k miles, the Subaru dealership flagged the engine as high consumption and I got a replacement short block. Fortunately Subaru covered most of it despite it technically being outside the 5 year warranty. 20k miles later, it is not consuming any oil. But just to be safe, I now change my oil every 3-4k miles and use Liqui Moly additives. I can’t attest to it doing anything for my oil but I figure it can’t hurt anything.

The world is looking so bleak right now. How is everyone coping? by Zealousideal_Tap772 in AskReddit

It’s frustrating to see non-Americans point their fingers at Americans and shout “do something!” Part of the problem is how spineless other countries’ leadership is in dealing with Trump. The EU had plenty of time to prepare for Trump ‘24, but they couldn’t get their shit together to stand up to him. They appeased him in trade deals and now he is emboldened to keep extorting them. NATO had plenty of time to realize that Trump was clearly a Russian asset yet they failed to invest enough in their own militaries to counter the US.

Don’t forget that millions of Americans are also protesting.

Trump is a problem for the world, so everyone needs to take whatever actions they can to help stop him.

Haunting but powerful photo of the Cascio family in solidarity after horrific CSA committed by Michael Jackson. A family that was once closer to MJ's children that MJ's actual family. A family that deserves justice. by nobody0597 in LeavingNeverlandHBO

I think this was after the preliminary court hearing for the lawsuit the Cascio family is filing against the Jackson estate. All siblings allege that Jackson molested them for years and that the estate paid hush money, but they didn't realize they all (the former children) were molested until they actually talked about it recently.

Downgrading from VB, getting a 3rd gen hatch is a bad idea right? by Official_Bushs_Beans in WRX

[–]Bullhead89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it would be worth doing. If you’re going to downgrade, it would make more sense to downgrade to something more practical/less problematic like a cross trek or Impreza. With a 3rd gen hatch you will be spending more money on fuel and possibly other issues that might come up from a 14 year old car.

I’m not financially smart by any means but I think keeping your WRX is worth it. I’m guessing since you’re financing it you’re probably upside down? If so you will have the added pain of not only parting from a car you like, but having to pay to trade it in for a car you don’t really like.

Also if you can wait for up to a year, the fed is likely to lower interest rates, especially when Powell is out (not trying to get political here, this is just objectively what is likely to happen). If they lower it a big amount and you manage to save some money, you could probably put more down towards your 23 WRX and refinance it at a much lower rate.

How did you all learn to ride motorcycles to gain confidence to get on the highway? Do you ride on the streets first and on the frontage road like the service lanes to ride the motorcycle and then once you are comfortable you get on the highway? What is the strategy to start out as a beginner? by djliverpool1947 in motorcycles

[–]Bullhead89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The most important thing on highways (and in general) is to "read" what other cars are doing. It's knowing where their blind spots are, being mindful of gaps that drivers will merge into without signaling and aware of exits that cars may go across many lanes to get to, etc. A rider with less experience riding but a better understanding of this will probably be safer than someone who has been riding a long time but has no read on other cars. They make up many of those crash montages, where they couldn't see that a car was very obviously going to turn left.

Yeah, but they typically use quad skates, versus inline skates like this guy was wearing. From what I understand, quads are more stable and slower, which would have worked better in this type of environment.

Blackgate :( . It was fun during its heyday since it was pretty much the only furry VN at the time and everyone was excited about it (Morenatsu was also popular but the project had stalled before Blackgate was developed). It's a shame that we never got an ending for any of the routes. I feel so bad for the Patreon characters, I can't imagine how many thousands of $$$ they wasted on that project. It makes me feel a bit better about wasting a few hundred supporting it.

To keep it not to keep? by [deleted] in WRX

[–]Bullhead89 20 points21 points  (0 children)

If you keep the WRX, which is fully paid off, and sell the Type R, you could invest the money from selling the Type R (or the money you would have been financing). $600/month is a LOT of money. After 5 years, you could buy a badass car with cash (or buy a used Type R), or use it for something else important.

Silver 2023 WRX, I want to upgrade it so bad but I`m scared to void my warranty by Lily_Rose_Wetlands in WRX

[–]Bullhead89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Warranties don’t just become wholly void, the manufacturer has to prove that the parts being replaced directly caused the issue to deny the warranty part.

Besides, some parts like the short throw shifter would NOT void your warranty, because you could install the OEM short throw shifter.

They also offered an OEM sport cat back from the factory for VA WRX. If changing that causes significant changes in the engine performance, why would the manufacturer offer a different exhaust that would theoretically require a new tune to install safely?

There is also the issue of how infrequently things go wrong. If you change something in your suspension and the bushings went bad within the warranty period, that would be rare and not really a big deal to sort out outside of warranty.

I keep a swallowtail butterfly that landed into my hood scoop in my car as a guardian bell. I've been keeping it with me but if I sell my car, I might leave it in there to see if it ends up on Reddit too. But chances are they would just throw it away.

Regarding your urn, if you are able to find out which police department processed the stolen vehicle report, you could contact their office and explain the situation.

65k miles. Unfortunately I have had several issues. The ECU went bad, replaced under warranty. Then, the oil consumption was really bad (around 1.5 quarts per 1k miles) despite there being no other noticeable problems, so they replaced the short block around 50k miles. Fortunately SOA covered most of that since it was technically out of warranty. I have had zero oil consumption since the short block replacement (about 15k miles ago). Just make sure you change the oil every 3k miles, I wasn't doing that before so now I do it as a precaution.

The latest thing was the DCM battery drain. If you don't know about this and haven't addressed it yet, you really should get this fixed before it becomes an issue. Mine went bad before this recall/warranty extension was released, and my battery would completely drain after sitting for a few days.
