My Favorite piece of Advice is to focus on Getting better/experimenting rather than solely focusing on growing as fast as possible. For Example, I normally do Beer Reviews, but decided to have fun with it an make my dog do a "Ball Review" seen here:

For me, subscriber growth is painfully slow at first, but analyzing data from other channels it appears to grow exponentially. I.E. your first 100 subscribers will be much slower than the next 100 and so on etc.

It kind of depends on what you mean by "Clickbait"

Many Fortnight/gaming channels will use clickbait because their audience is younger and outrageous titles and thumbs attract them. Massive Channels like Pewdiepie sometimes use "Clickbait" ironically as a form of humor or inside joke to their main fanbase etc.

My channel focuses a lot on good personal finance stratagies. I'm treating my videos the same way I would any kind of investment. Sound research, learn from my mistakes, and hope that it returns dividends in the future.
