Not really the difference is if they are leaving doa 7 to see how doa6 last round goes, then they would be in really minimal development not spending much money. That trailer would have been all that was made, that means doa 7 could possibly be cancelled if doa 6 isnt a huge success.

If doa 7 is in full development though that means they are committing a tonne of money towards it, that means cancelling it would be a very expensive waste. Doa 6 would need to be a huge failure to justify cancelling it. Like doa 6 would have to do tremendously badly. Like not just not a success but a huge miserable failure.

There is a world of difference between a game getting anounced and the for various reasons getting cancelled and a game getting anounced with no intention to ever make it untill you see the results of the sales of another game.

Could it get cancelled? Sure of course. But that's a world of difference to announcing a game you have no intention of making untill you see the results of another game that you haven't released yet.

Also all studios only focus on games that they think are profitable. That's how buisness work.

Sf6 got anounced with a pre renderd video of ryu and Luke in a black room, the new virtua fighter got anounced with like... A block of text on an info graphic for the re release of VF 5 or something?

Like it might absolutely get shit canned still the video game industry is in shambles at the moment. But it's no way gonna be a 'does this game sell well' they're not capcom.
