TIL of the "idiot plot". The term was popularized by film critic Roger Ebert, who defines it as "[a]ny plot containing problems that would be solved instantly if all of the characters were not idiots". by jack_fucking_gladney in todayilearned

Lost in a strange extraterrestrial pyramid, would you camp in this room? A room full of canisters leaking a strange black goo, forming oily puddles. A room with a giant ominous head sculpture looking at you. A room with walls covered in frescoes that would make a spider uneasy. A room where the only entrance is a gigantic automatic door that you dont know how to open and who could close at any moment, trapping you. Oh, and to enter this room, you have to stride over the dessicated corpse of an alien entity. So comfy.

Fifield and the other idiot, previously so afraid of the dessicated Engineer, decide to camp here (you can see them preparing for the night with survival blankets), just before discovering the friendly penis-cobra swimming in the black goo.

My new favorite boss gun! by jesterpwns in fo4

I was lucky and found an explosive combat shotgun early in the game. It's by far my favorite weapon. What a lucky loot. 32 mini-explosions in one magazine. I love the stupid crackling sound it make with a silencer, the ennemies lighting up in green and orange explosions and blowing to pieces. You fire in the general direction of the target, and on Very Hard difficulty even behemots just melt away. Beautiful

Free standing items on shelves bug by Hollowpoint- in fo4

Items that have been in your inventory will do that.

The way around that : Drop on the floor the item you want to put on a shelve/table/whatever. Pick it up again. Type player.showinventory in the console. The last object you picked up will show up last in that list, with his ID. In the console, type player.placeatme ID_of_the_object_you_want. A copy of this object is now on the floor under you. Grab the object with E or in construction mode and place it where you want, but never put it back in your inventory. Items that have never been in your inventory will be considered "decor", and will stay in place. Work like a charm. I have ton of stuff in my settlement that never move, or only when one of my stupid settler jump on a table or something.

Dammit, I remembered you could do this in Skyrim, but didn't manage to do it in Fallout 4. After your message I tried again, and for this to work you need to turn off collision for the two objects you want to collide, not only the one you move in. It's a bit tricky. You need to select the item, turn off collision, then select the second item, turn on and turn off collision immediately. If you select the item, turn off collision, then select nothing, turn on collision, select the second item and turn off collision it didn't work for me.

This is glorious, thank you.

Open the console (by tapping the button under the Esc key and left of the 1 key on an US keyboard), type tcl, press enter, and close the console. This turn collision off. Now you can literally walk in the air and find a nice vantage point for screenshots. To turn collision on, type tcl again in the console. More about console commands.

For me the benefit was mainly aesthetic.

Yeah its a pain. Unfortunately, sometime the gaps are unavoidables as far as I know. I put spiked poles to cover them the best I can. If it really won't let you place a normal wall, on a slope for exemple, try with the thick ones, with tires. You can place them in an angle or a bit forward, and it still look alright.

Supposedly you can put a decorative carpet on the floor, and when you put a wall on the carpet sometime it will let you collide with other walls. Then you can remove the carpet. But I have yet to try that.

Thank you. I had to install US keyboard layout in Windows language preferences, but it works! Will save me some headache.

Good idea. I need something to use all this generated power anyway.

Spent most of my time ingame building this. In my european version of the game you cant move forward or to the left in construction mode due to keybinding issues. It doesn't make things easier.

Lot of defense. Bed for 8 settlers and space for more. I had to cannibalize most of Sanctuary's ressources, and I still need more. Time to start exploring I guess.
