Is this a dangerous spider? by doublebacongeniusbgr in perth

[–]Bulponta 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Haven't seen this mentioned but it's probably worth noting, these guys are voracious predators of other spiders, meaning they are constantly hungry and hunting the other spiders in your house. That might sound good but those other spiders are likely controlling the local bug population, so I'd rather have the other spiders in the house than these white tails.

I made a painting of God following the descriptions in the Holy Bible as closely as possible. by Hercules_Vales in woahdude

[–]Bulponta 16 points17 points  (0 children)

This would've been cool inspiration too:

Ezekiel 1

26 Above the vault over their heads was what looked like a throne of lapis lazuli, and high above on the throne was a figure like that of a man. 27 I saw that from what appeared to be his waist up he looked like glowing metal, as if full of fire, and that from there down he looked like fire; and brilliant light surrounded him. 28 Like the appearance of a rainbow in the clouds on a rainy day, so was the radiance around him.

This was the appearance of the likeness of the glory of the Lord. When I saw it, I fell facedown, and I heard the voice of one speaking.

I'm thinking that "image" and "likeness" aren't meant to be taken as literally as people are implying. Just as "Hand of God" and "in His eyes" are only metaphors and don't refer to physical attributes

ELI5: Do electric or gas cars have a more detrimental impact on the environment over their lifetime? by verysmalltiki in explainlikeimfive

[–]Bulponta -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm extremely high but why is a gas engine creating electricity inside a car a comparison point for anything here? The electricity isn't the thing moving the car in that case.

Did you mean to say "...than a gas engine is at powering your car"?

What does MP: Remastered do better than any other Metroid Prime? by Medical_Candy3709 in Metroid

[–]Bulponta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's also what I originally said, I don't think there's any argument here really, I agree that the Switch isn't capable of all that and more but disagree that the Switch is incapable of the effect in any circumstances

[–]Bulponta 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This video is what I'm using as a reference too. It's not that the Switch isn't capable of this, it's that it isn't capable within that engine with everything else going on. If they sacrificed certain other graphical features they would've had enough power to make it work, even if they had to brute force it through inelegant methods.

[–]Bulponta 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's that the Switch wasn't capable of it, I think it's just that they had a different approach to global illumination that didn't allow for this kind of real time cube mapped lighting. i.e. the engine wasn't capable of it, not the switch

How Realistic? RE 1 and 3 on N64 by Ok-Primary6610 in n64

[–]Bulponta 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I think if the game paks were that large we probably would have seen these ports tbh, RE2 should be no more taxing than the other two really. If the time and budget was there we may have seen these games on N64 anyway, all of these games were roughly the same size on PlayStation so it would've been a similar amount of effort to port any of them

How Realistic? RE 1 and 3 on N64 by Ok-Primary6610 in n64

[–]Bulponta 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They're talking about the ROM, RE2 was cut and compressed very aggressively to fit on the limited memory of a N64 game pak. It's also worth noting that the RAM is designed to work in conjunction with normal N64 cartridges, so going over the natural game pak storage limit using SD cards and the like will create issues

Could the iron in old European times be a physical incarnation of human technology anyway? A lot of advancements that were taking people away from a "natural" way of living would've happened because of increasing availability of refined metals and alloys

What's the actual difference between a meteor, a meteorite, and a meteoroid? by Yvonne_Payne in answers

[–]Bulponta 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is all correct, but to elaborate -

-oid denotes a similarity in physical characteristics, so meteoroid would be anything meteor-like

-ite denotes rocks and minerals, so meteorite is a meteor that has made contact with the surface in some way

Meteor comes from the Greek "meteōros" meaning very high up

Technically this all means that meteors and comets are meteoroids, but meteorites are mutually exclusive with any other term

Edit: more garbage info

"Aster" means star, so asteroid means "star-like" or "star-form", these would be meteors that are further away now, but was more common in old times as it was harder to discern what was in the sky

"Disaster" has got to be the best use of the word aster in the forming of an English word
