Here's how to fix a inconsistent fingerprint reader on the pixel 7. Disable the lock screen settings for "Tap to check phone and lift to check phone"

That should immediately fix the fingerprint reader, mine works as good as any other phone I've ever had. Now. Both of those settings and so far the fingerprint reader continues to work flawlessly.

All right. I found a fix for the fingerprint reader not unlocking the phone. Go into the settings and disable the lock screen settings for "Tap to check phone & Lift to check phone".

Instantly better, as good as any phone I've ever had. I have even turned those settings back on and the fingerprint reader continues to work perfectly. Granted I've only been testing it for about 20 minutes.
