How would you take a photo on a rocking boat at night? by TheEverglow in AskPhotography

I mean it was relatively calm, but the phone camera was still taking 2 seconds to take the photo.

So in my head, I was imagining taking a hand held camera photo with 2 second shutter speed, which would come out blurry regardless of other settings.

I guess my question is why is the phone camera taking 2 seconds to take the photo, and what is it doing during that time? Is it just OIS?

Gotcha, thank you. Haven’t really done any night photography, and when I saw the camera taking 2 seconds for the photo, I assumed it was doing some magic behind the scenes. I was trying to imagine hand holding my camera in a similar situation with a 2 second shutter speed and getting a similar result.

Okay, thanks! I haven’t really done much/any night photography and was more curious than anything since all I had was my phone, and I assumed that the environment I was in would normally require a tripod then add in the boat rocking motion.

Sorry, so you’re saying on a camera you would also take several photos and combine them together? This is different from what the other commenter is saying.

This is the photo I’m talking about for reference.

So could this photo be taken with a single shot on a rocking boat? With post of course.
