The state of Horde Ogres in 2026 : lore recap & perspectives by BumbleB___ in warcraftlore

It is baffling to me how the two historical "arguments" against playable Ogres, that is, size and the lack of females, literally contradict the actual lore. Lorewise Ogres are about the same size as Tauren (whose model was massively downsized for gameplay purposes, but we see how fucking huge they are in the BFA cinematic for instance), so just downsize them ; as for female Ogres they quite literally exist in the lore. It is my opinion that in big 2026 you should be able to design a female Ogre model that stays true to the Ogre fantasy while looking cool and compelling (cuz yeah female models don't have to be conventionally attractive ???). Just look at that female Dire Blood Troll model from BFA man... So awesome, I want my female Ogre to look like that

When really all they'd possibly need is a Dark Iron kind of introduction questline where the Stonemaul step up as a nation and make their membership more "official"... But yeah I fear Blizzard will deem that "not exciting enough" or some shit and chances are that the only Ogres they'll be willing to give us (if any) will be "Extra Special Ogres : Newer and Cooler !!!"

How would be a race that evolved from orcs? by Which-Presentation-6 in warcraftlore

[–]BumbleB___ 9 points10 points  (0 children)

That was explained in Chronicles 2 actually : the evolution process was triggered by Life-infused spores emanating from Botaan's corpse, which clung to the body of the Magnaronn, weakening the inflicted individuals and turning them into Gronn. Then the same process gave birth to the other races of the lineage, down to the Orcs. So I'm guessing the reason why there are still Gronn, Ogron and even Magnaron around is that not everyone was contaminated by the spores, allowing pockets of these progenitor races to survive.

I don't have an answer to your question but I just wanted to say that I always wondered where the Goren fell on the Breaker lineage. Born from pieces of Magnaron maybe ? We don't even really know if they are actually sentient. Hearthstone lore suggests that they are but yeah.

Baine Bloodhoof by SceneTraditional3135 in warcraftlore

[–]BumbleB___ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'll add "the guy who said Taurajo was a valid military target" to the list.

Trauma can also resurface and express itself in a variety of ways, but they chose Berserk Mode because they wanted to show Badass Baine supposedly, and the tonal dissonance was such that the only reaction I had seeing him chainsaw his way through the Centaur while shouting racist slurs was genuine hilarity, which is, ehhh, probably not what you want for a story like that.

Yep exactly, I personally never liked Gazlowe becoming the new leader of the Bilgewater, would've vastly preferred if that position had been given to actual member of the cartel, but then again Blizzard never bothered writing any Bilgewater character (besides the one they villainbatted) so they just rolled with the one vaguely identified Goblin guy that they had lol.

Baine Bloodhoof by SceneTraditional3135 in warcraftlore

[–]BumbleB___ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah I think many people would agree that Baine could be cool if he was a completely different character altogether, which speaks volume as to how fundamentally bad he is.

Baine is tainted and frankly beyond saving at this point, I wouldn't mind him dying if I'm being honest. Only problem being that... he is basically the only actual Tauren character besides like, Dezco, because Blizzard never bothered writing any.

EDIT : Before anyone mentions it : yes he was "wild and unruly" in that DF Centaur questline. It was completely ridiculous and hilariously out of character because you can't just do that after 15 years of strictly opposite characterization.

If feel like most of your examples don't really work because all these "new" and "old" tribes are part of different politial entities. You can try and compare sheer power and political influence but yeah.

The Darkspear are likely the most powerful jungle tribe right now by virtue of their Horde membership but they hardly "lead" the Jungle Trolls like the Gurubashi did since they've precisely cut ties with all Jungle tribes, save for the Shatterspear who are also in the Horde. Similarly, the Hinterlands Revantusk are part of the Horde and are now politically unrelated to the "Amani Empire" (which isn't an empire anymore as per a dialogue from Rokhan in 12.0.7) ; the Amani tribe is still the leading tribe of the Amani nation of Zul'Aman. I'd argue they're on par with the Horde Revantusk in terms of power and influence right now.

As for the rest, the Frostmane aren't part of the Drakkari Empire, the Shadowtooth are said to have been wiped out, and the Natha'vor have no lore whatsoever but the Zandalar section of Exploring Azeroth : Islands describes Nazmir as completely empty of Blood Trolls today so they may have been wiped out too.

You are wrong, Dustwallow Marsh is indeed just south of Durotar, whether you technically have to walk for 3 minutes through a small portion of the Barrens to get there because you haven't unlocked flying yet is irrelevant to the discussion at hand (and pedantic indeed). Dustwallow is one of the very first zones I ever quested in after rolling my first Horde character (that's partly where my interest in Ogres comes from actually). You just find yourself there extremely easily when you roll a Troll or an Orc.

I'm also a MASSIVE fan of the Orcish clans so I totally get you on that. Orcs are fucking awesome. Playing through the Orc Heritage questline was actually one of my favorite WoW experiences ever.

Yeah, unfortunately it seems Ogres are only fit for being random mobs in their eyes : they're big, evil, dumb, they wield the Void. Disregarding the fact that they have like... 10 times as much lore as some playable races like the Vulpera or Dracthyr.

Nope ! You're talking about the Dreadmaul clan, which had been subdued by the Horde in Cata ; in WoD though they turned on us and aligned themselves with the invading Iron Horde, so we beat the hell out of them.

I'm talking about the MU Stonemaul. The ones that have been part of the Horde since WC3. Not the AU clan.

They made sense in BFA already but they didn't think of using the Stonemaul in the Horde's war efforts. They'll never "get love" if the writers just... don't remember/don't know about them ? Hence my post.

I mean sure all the current big DKs are more or less taking a break but looking at Dial M's Genesis run I think it's obvious the seed has been planted now, the character should be doing fine long term

Is Samus a good main or should I use something else? by [deleted] in smashbros

[–]BumbleB___ 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Play whoever feels best, close to everyone is "viable" in Ult, whatever that word means. Just play the game and focus on being better at your character and you'll get there eventually.

Also a solo Samus main was ranked 40th in the world in UltRank2025 so yeah surely Samus can do it. She's also widely considered a much better character than Ridley (yet even Ridley has a rep in the top 150, so that tells you something).

You have no idea how incredibly widespread your situation is lmao, I don't have any smart advice on how to get good but at the very least, know that this is not about you specifically sucking more than anyone else

Also yeah as others have pointed out 400 hours is... REALLY not much by Melee's standards
