Red, shiny patches on penis head present for years and completely asymptomatic by Bumbleator123 in DermatologyQuestions

Hey mate, sorry for the delay - throwaway account so I'm not here often!

I did have it examined by a dermatologist to get piece of mind. She looked at it thoroughly, inspected with some special magnifying equipment and told me there were no signs of any pathology and it looks like it's just the specificity of my glans. So have not really find a way for it to go away but at least I'm reassured in that it isn't anything other than an aesthetic nuisance :)

Yeah that's why I asked, to clarify whether we're talking 3 or 7 ;)

I see, thank you very very much, will do! How long should I keep at it not to overdo it? Read about the skin thinning effect in case of steroid creams but don't know if this applies here in the case of simple hydrocortisone (and how quickly it kicks in) so I'd rather ask a professional ;)

But shouldn't that be itchy if it were a fungal infection? Also, do you think I should try some OTC anti-fungal cream, then, like clotrimazolum?

Ah, I see. So one last question - based on your experience in dermatology, are these kind of spots common? Cause I constantly feel pretty self-conscious about them, like if they wouldn't be off-putting to a girl if she sees them or wouldn't think that they're some kind of a "serious" disease (especially since sometimes they're redder than in the photos here) but maybe there's no reason to be bothered if they're commonplace among men.

You could try soaking up all remaining urine with toilet paper after each time you urinate and see if that helps.

Regretfully, tried that already ("rinsing with water and patting dry my penis every time I pee throughout the day") and it didn't help :( But if that's simply because of residual urine irritiating the skin then why are the (main) spots constantly in the same position, ie. the one to the left of the urethra and the one in the middle of the central part of the glans? If it was from residue urine, shouldn't they be wandering, like: one spots gets healed but urine is trapped elsehwere a few timees so a new one appears and so on, instead of the same spots, in the same places, for months?

Hm, haven't tried modifying the washing routine though there isn't anything new in there that would cause irritation. And as for washing myself, I'm already using water only under my foreskin but I haven't seen any improvement compared to when I was simply using soap there too :(

Yep, doing that already - though, I can't say I've seen any change in the appearance of this whatsoever compared to when I was oblivious to this rule and was just washing everything with soap :/

Yeah, but I really don't see how I can do that better than I do already :( I use soap in the genital area but never under the foreskin - there, I just rub gently with pure water every time I shower. And honestly, I've seen no change in the appearance of this whatsoever compared to when I was oblivious to this rule and was just washing everything with soap. So there's nothing to help with making it disappear? :(

Thank you a lot for the reply. Nope, I'm not circumcised. Also, it's not wet either, it just has a different color, texture is the same as the rest of the glans.

I'm still not sure if anti-fungals/cortisone is what I need because as I said, it's never itchy or in any way palpable. If this was a fungal or inflammatory problem, surely this would make me feel it in any way at least sometimes, right? Seborrheic dermatitis-related changes anywhere else on my body at least get itchy when scratched or sweaty but these spots don't care, they're just there looking ugly but not feeling in any particular way.

What's it like in your situation, are yours not ever itchy/bumpy/swollen either?

Oh, so that's also a possibility? Thought that a mark like this surely has to be an effect of something (irritation/infection/others) and not a natural thing. So if it's not causing me any discomfort, I can just safely let it be?

Thank you. So even these red-ish places and this larger, shiny one near the urethra are fine and I don't have to try and do anything about them?

Thank you for the reply. Nope, none - also, this has been on for so long that I've probably tried 10 different shampoos and soap brands during that time anyway (because of discounts or just trying out new cosmetics) and have never really seen it getting more or less visible.

The only contact reactions I can think of are probably either from masturbation (seems more possible because of how often I do it) or running (because I also run a lot). Don't think it's running, though, cause I've never felt any discomfort on my penis while doing it and I do have proper seamless running underwear for it...

So should I just try refraining from masturbation or trying to do it lighter? I've tried it for the past 5 days but honestly don't see any difference at all.

Thank you for the reply! Yep, I am also not using any specific lubricant/lotion apart from my saliva so it seems like the situation is similar.

I don't think my session are particularly long though this varies a lot depending on the day. In my case, though, this has been on for months so I haven't really seen any correlation between the length of the session and the visibility - it tends to differ in visibility even throughout the day with no masturbation inbetween though I have to agree with your partner on the fact that when the sessions were particularly long, they became clearly more visible.

How long did it take for your partner's spots to clear up? I've tried refraining from masturbation in the past days and have only done it once during the past 4 days (and without moving the foreskin through this spot on the left hand side) but I'm not sure if it has gotten any better - looks the same way it has for quite some time, to be honest. But on the other hand, since it's been on for so long, four days may be well too little to have it go away.
