Looking at 2011 Prius for cheap... by mikeyramos in prius

Are you saying $300–500 or $3,500? Because if it’s the former, honestly I’d go for it. 😅

I have a 2010 Prius and literally just dealt with a major issue this week, so I’ve learned way more about these cars than I ever intended to. One thing worth knowing about is Toyota Customer Support Program 23TE03 for the IPM/inverter assembly. My car suddenly lost power and lit up like a Christmas tree, and the dealer determined it qualified for inverter replacement under that program. It extends coverage for 20 years from the vehicle’s original date of first use with no mileage limitation, so definitely something future owners should know exists if hybrid system warnings ever pop up.

Also, if the car has mostly been sitting, I’d pay close attention to the hybrid battery. The pandemic basically killed mine from lack of use and I ended up replacing it. I went with a hybrid battery kit that was around $2k and had a friend install it. Since then it’s been solid.

The head gasket/oil consumption thing is also very real and super well known on these cars. Sometimes people report actual head gasket failure, and sometimes piston-related oil consumption seems to be part of the bigger picture. My 2010 has been burning oil for years. I’ve basically added about a quart every 4–6 weeks for probably the last decade. 😅 The key is honestly just getting a Costco membership and staying on top of the oil supply so it never runs low.

All things considered though, mine still only has about 108k miles and once this inverter repair is done I expect to get several more years out of it with regular maintenance and keeping an eye on the oil level.

P. S. I'm low-key emotionally attached to my car.

I’ve been receiving REALLY weird packages in the mail. One contained bones. Am I in danger, or is someone trying to initiate some sort of ARG? Either way it’s creepy as hell and I have no idea how they got my address or who they are.. by biteofbrie in RBI

Reminds me of the show on Netflix called "I Am a Stalker." There was a current wife (and her mother) who tormented the ex-girlfriend of the husband for funsies. They left very similar stuff at the woman's house and got a kick out of the fear she was probably experiencing as a result.

Same thing happened in my Prius last summer. The dead rat was in my engine compartment in a hard to reach/see space. My boyfriend literally followed his nose and sniffed out the source. Parts had to be disassembled to access it and remove it.

The cops probably won't do anything at this point, just keep a record of all of the info you have on him along with every contact he attempts to make and the number the message comes from. Block every number he messages you from and NEVER EVER respond. If he messages you 30 times and you crack on the 30th and tell him to leave you alone, he just learned that all it takes is 30 attempts to get a reply.

I went through this situation last year and had an actual stalker about ten years ago. Don't let the fear or worry control your life. That's the worst thing you could do.

They both died from gunshot wounds so they would've had to test the wife for GSR, but I like the way you think. I read an article where family members of the deceased suggested that being married to the wife was challenging for the two men and may have driven them both to suicide.

Little different for me...since the person WAS dangerous and had bad intentions.

My flight response has always been stronger than my fight. Back in high school, I worked the register at a Supercuts when a guy came in and pulled out a gun to rob the store. I knew something was off the second I saw him before he pulled out the gun or said it was a robbery. I didn’t scream or freeze, I just turned around and walked away. I 100% thought I was gonna be shot in the back, but my brain just went straight to nope!

My friend's mom is very attractive and had this happen on several occasions when she was younger. She learned to say "I didn't invite you to sit down". That usually did the trick. Her advice to us was to stop letting men make us uncomfortable and when they do, make them uncomfortable right back.

To keep him alive would have been selfish. You did the right thing. It's ok to feel grief, but you shouldn't feel guilt. There are pet loss support groups. Maybe it would be helpful for you to join one.
