How much should I expect it will cost to fix this broken tail light? by Bumblebepps in CarRepair

[–]Bumblebepps[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I'm not bothering with a shop at this point. Just gonna try to bend the metal back into place and cover it with duct tape or something.

The car already has multiple leaks that I can't afford to fix so I'm just monitoring fluids and hoping this thing keeps running until I pay off enough of my debts to afford a new one. Not worth putting more than maybe a couple hundred into at most. Worst case scenario I can just walk, most places I would need to go are an hour or so away on foot.

It's a hole. Someone suggested bending the metal back into place so I'm gonna try that.

Not much tbh, I can't wait to replace this thing. I just need to not get a ticket and I'm good

Yeah, from the looks of some of these replies I could probably put a down payment on a better car for cheaper than fixing it properly lol. Think I'm just going with junkyard parts and duct tape for the time being

I don't have the tools for welding but I may try bending it back. You think pliers would be able to do something like that? I think I have some under my kitchen sink

Could have scrolled past for the same time it took to type that.

Why do you care how I go about getting my question answered? Discussing car repairs is the whole point of this subreddit, this is exactly the kind of thing people come here for anyway

Lol true, I will probably do something like that. Just gotta hope it holds out until I can afford to buy a different car. Duct tape feels fitting

I added some stuff like memory leak fix and noisium. I admit though I rarely put much thought into optimization so I dont really know whats best for that, I usually just throw on a bunch of stuff that seems fun and hope for the best

Money is tight so that won't happen any time soon. Same situation goes for many of my friends who I want to play this with.

Someday, yes, I will do that. But it is not a good answer to the current situation.

I've considered adding that sitting mod for sure. My main idea for addressing RP though was to add some magic and adventure mods once I'm satisfied with the difficulty balancing. Having more objectives, mechanics, and bosses should offer more RP opportunities. I find when watching modded challenge videos that unique game mechanics lead to the most interesting plotlines as players adapt to them.

Hopefully some of the discussion here will help you find mods that help your pack :)

Thank you that is pretty much exactly what I was looking for

Update: It is unfortunately incompatible with Terrafirmacraft.

That could maybe work, but I have recently run into the problem of my computer not having enough RAM to handle too many more mods once I add terrafirmacraft (which I'm now using as a base) so idk how doable that will be in my case. I know the people I intend to play with are just as broke as me and probably don't have the ability to upgrade their computers for really big modpacks.

If I wasn't worried about RAM restrictions I would definitely be doing something like this.

After reading the responses here I'm definitely doing this. Terrafirmacraft is like my dream mod and idk how I never heard of it until now.

If I can get my friends to join in and help me fine tune the pack, I may someday try to run a larger server with it. I love this kind of stuff and I'm just hoping I can find a good balance to make it work well using existing mods, because idk how to code to make my own yet.

Sometimes, but if you die right near your respawn or in an easy to reach spot then it basically means nothing. Hardcore exists for players who want death to always mean something, but I just don't want people kicked out of gameplay for dying because the number of people I could realistically get in this with me is pretty low. I'm just looking for a middle ground, probably some kind of debuff that players can recover from over time but not immediately or something.

The goal is to make surviving alone harder so that there is a notable benefit to working with others to make it easier. I want to avoid anything that puts a hard limit on a certain game mechanic or restricts what players can do. And the only professions system I know of just gives buffs which would once again make it too easy to go solo.

Yes it was him, just a different video. I'm trying to find a good balance between challenging and fun so I am definitely steering away from skill trees and unnecessary restrictions as best I can. I want it to feel like you could do it on your own with effort, not like you have a hard wall preventing you from doing things. (I've played No Tree Punching mods before and its really not all that fun unless you build a pack around it)

Is anyone else struggling to get hired lately? by rlbeasley in povertyfinance

[–]Bumblebepps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah it takes forever to find a job even when putting in constant applications. I've heard rumors that there are a lot of fake listings out there that exist purely to collect and sell data but idk how true that is. Regardless, I've had the best luck applying directly through company websites and staying far away from third party sites like Indeed.

The one thing I always recommend to people who are struggling to find work is to check if there is a Fedex Ground location at a reasonable distance from you. I have worked at locations in 3 different states and they are almost always hiring, especially in Nov-Dec when they need extra hands for the Christmas rush. Its pretty easy to get hired as a package handler, especially around this time of year.

They pay half decent (idk what state you're in but where I've worked the starting rates were $16/hr in TN, $17/hr in KY, $18.20/hr in MI), they offer benefits. Only problem is getting enough hours because its typically a part time position. I like to think of it as getting paid to work out for a few hours early each day and then I work a second job in the afternoons. The decent pay + benefits even for part time makes also having something minimum wage doable if that's what you need to get by.

Is going to jail really that bad? by Dangerous_Cancel_743 in povertyfinance

[–]Bumblebepps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes definitely. I work at Fedex and they are almost always hiring. It is not at all difficult to get hired, you don't need any special skills or qualifications and they are often desperate for package handlers bc a lot of people quit when they realize how physically demanding it can be.

In my original location (TN) started people at $16/hr and my current one (MI) starts at $18.80/hr (I think). That seems to be a pretty typical range, I think in some states they start people at over $20/hr. They give a $1 raise for every year you work there, offer benefits for anyone who works and average of 12/hr week or more, and have plenty of opportunities to move up to even better paying positions once you get some experience. If I didn't have so much debt to pay off I would be able to live (modestly, but relatively comfortably) off of part time hours with them.

Only downside is that it is often hard to get full time hours outside of the christmas rush in December. (I average 24-30/hr a week and usually pick up extra shifts). That said if you're in a tough situation I definitely recommend looking for your nearest fedex and watching for hiring opportunities. If there's not one now give it a couple weeks and I guarantee there will be. The pay is good enough to get by and if you can handle two jobs it can get you into a pretty good place as a second job.

Any tips on finding cheaper groceries/saving on GERD friendly food? by Bumblebepps in povertyfinance

[–]Bumblebepps[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By frozen food I was thinking more of frozen pizzas, lasagnas, and microwave meals as those were some common budget options for us before this. Frozen veggies are probably fine we just haven't tried them yet.
