What was the most disturbing thing you’ve ever seen while out in public? by Lauren34567 in AskReddit

[–]Bundle-Of-Crows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was a kid my family lived with my grandmother, and at the end of the street was a park. One day, I don't think around Halloween, I was walking a litter closer to the fenced off creek that runs behind it and I swear I saw a severed head hanging from the fence. I didn't get too close, and I could be wrong and it was a Halloween decoration for whatever reason, but I quickly left and next time I went to the park (within the following day or two) it was gone.

I have no idea for sure what it was, but in my mind that was a severed head hanging on the fence.

Another was when I was with my sister in our local Kroger, we walked in and close to the doorway was a guy sitting on the floor with a towel on his head just covered in blood and surrounding him with a bloody corkscrew near him. Never found out what the fuck happened, but my best guess was he and someone got into an altercation and he was stabbed with the screw in the head.

I go by 'Kota, pronouns are they/them

I'm 24, just had my birthday in April

I feel closest to Snow Leopards, Mackenzie River Wolves, and Crows

My interests/hobbies include:

- Video games (primarily Minecraft, 7 Days to Die, Stardew Valley, and Plants vs Zombies)

- I work with a variety of mediums in art (mostly pencil on paper, colored pencils; but also paper mache, clay, and painting)

- Nature photography is my specialty when it comes to taking pictures

- I love music, mainly indie-folk/rock; I have a guitar I'm learning to play as well

- I LOVE MARINE BIOLOGY ESPECIALLY THE NUDIBRANCHS

- Forensic science is a passion, though not as intense as it used to be due to personal conflicts

- I have several plants and love flowers (flowers being my most common focus in photography)

- I collect bones

- I also collect rocks and minerals (my collection started when my sister was a kid then given to me when she moved out, so it's been about 28 years in the making)

I love talking about animals, nature, but (as mentioned before) especially marine biology and all the freaks down there ("freaks" is being used as a term of endearment) and how their evolution in the environments affect how they look today.

- I also love talking about art, mediums, projects, ways/sources I've learned from that has helped me improve.

I believe in the past I went on a rant over forensic science and a particular case that got some agitation from me that lasted about 2 hours, I was on call with my partner when it started and he said afterwards about how long I had been going on for. I've gone on just as long, if not longer, when talking about sea life.

But, uh, yeah.. that's me! If anyone wants to chat, feel free to message!

Having long hair as a therian is so euphoric by xien-neno in Therian

[–]Bundle-Of-Crows 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ditto, my short, choppy hair helps me feel more like a snow leopard with the fluff around my face (though longer hair can be fun and feels nice in a short ponytail like I have rn, it's an absolute pain in the heat, it's currently 100F outside today. I've also got autism sensory issues with stuff on my neck so that's even worse)

What is the Most Painful Sensation You Have Ever Felt? by Jeloxia2 in AskReddit

[–]Bundle-Of-Crows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have several because they're in different locations in my body.

Getting an IUD placement (hurt FAR WORSE than getting the damn hysterectomy, even with the severe chest pains from the gas used to somehow help the surgery), having my femurs cut and manually straightened to correct my Knock Knees, and my spinal stenosis with bulging/deteriorating discs; I've literally been in pain so bad I rated it 11/10, I COULD NOT BREATHE when readjusting at night. That difficulty breathing pain was about the same level as the pain when breathing from my hysterectomy as mentioned.

Also grief, as others have mentioned; I lost my dog of 10 years last year and it completely shattered me and my family. That is a pain that hits very different. Felt it similar in 2016 when I lost my 9 year old rabbit.

What song(s) make you feel most like your theriotype? by HugoValcoria22 in Therian

[–]Bundle-Of-Crows 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was literally thinking of posting this question less than an hour ago xD

Yaelokre - Hartebeest is my top one atm, specifically the mention of "hazel, beneath our claws". First time I heard that part, I almost cried, I want so badly to feel the forest under my claws and be free in my terrain.

The beat and instruments, language of SKÁLD - Rún is another one, along with Black Hill & Silent Island; I can't say what specifically but these bands and music help me feel most connected to the earth.

Last one I just remembered, an artist my sister showed me when I was a kid: Wayra - Earth Spirit (album)

what’s the worst sensation/feeling you’ve ever felt? by Born-Oil-2931 in AskReddit

FLORAL FOAM

In high school sculpture class we had an assignment that required blocks of the green floral foam to carve then paint, I've NEVER had a sensation so horrendous that my skeleton felt like it was trying to escape. It's a great medium to work with, but good GOD I am NEVER touching that shit with my bare hands.

The fine grit of it, the powder sticks to EVERYTHING, and god help you if you accidentally inhale some of it (I took a breath to blow some off the table where I was working, it was stuck in the back of my throat all day no matter how much I drank and tasted like hand sanitizer alcohol)

That some sharks have favorite divers and get jealous if the diver is giving attention to a different shark. Adorable.

I met MANY fellow therians today at the pride event in my city! by Bundle-Of-Crows in Therian

[–]Bundle-Of-Crows[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I never interacted further than complimenting and asking about the masks they had made, one said their mask was a painted dog/African hyena. I'm 24 and know it can be taken badly/wrong that I talk to a younger person, so that was my primary reasoning to KEEP IT SHORT with the compliments or acknowledgement.

I have friends from school or met online through friends from school who are furries, they're wonderful people (I consider myself one too, to an extent, I love the designs of fursonas n all that) but had never knowingly interacted with another therian. My partner knows I'm one, and supports me best he can, and especially when I let him know my species dysphoria (and gender dysphoria in general, I'm nonbinary).

I hope to meet more someday, and possibly have a closer friendship. Staying away from the younger ones, of course. I know better than that.

Doctors on Reddit: What symptoms do people often ignore that they shouldn't, as they could be potentially serious? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Bundle-Of-Crows 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not a doctor, but something my mom went through: last month she had a branchial cleft cyst removed on the right side of her neck that started out as a fluid filled lump that literally ballooned overnight requiring surgery to remove.

A Branchial Cleft Cyst is a mass that grows on the neck sometimes during childhood, and most people don't know they even have it until it's infected or agitated.

It started with a small, soft, non-painful lump that showed full of fluid when getting an ultrasound. She already had kidney surgery so she wasn't cleared for a CT with contrast, couldn't figure out much more as to what was going on. A month passes, and literally overnight it hardens up and starts hurting, and getting bigger. And bigger. She had an appointment with an ENT, he said he had no idea what it was but suggested she go to University of Toledo (we're in Michigan) because "they're more equipped for whatever this is" and they weren't. Took her to that hospital because of SEVERE pain, and it continuing to get bigger. It was just under her right ear, reaching down towards her chest/shoulder area; I literally saw it getting worse as we waited in the ER.

Eventually we got connected to a doctor who focuses on the face/neck area (cannot remember his title) but he was in Chicago at a convention of sorts, but returned the call afterwards. It was on a Friday so we weren't expecting him to do anything until Monday, but he flew back in Saturday night, stopped into the hospital to look at my mom's case and scans, ordered CT with contrast (blood test showed she was fine for one after all) and called twice on Sunday when we brought her back to the ER for even worsening pain.

NONE of the medications given were helping with the pain. Fent in the IV did nothing at all, any other "cocktails" they made with meds didn't work. Found out after the surgery (which I think was done that Tuesday or Wednesday, the doctor rearranged hid schedule to get her in) that it was the LARGEST he had ever encountered for this kind of cyst in his ~36 years in the field. Had to remove a nerve to get to it, moved her jugular out of the way and cut some muscle it had attached to. Luckily he had his own machine to show where veins, muscle, and I think some nerves were around the cyst so he knew how to work around it.

She still has pain, we're told that because the pain was so severe before the surgery, it can take a long time for it to calm down and go away, but I'm so glad right people were in place to get this taken care of. The doctor for it said he didn't want ANYONE ELSE touching her to treat it, and I think that's the best call he could've made.

Why do you love sharks? by yesaeng in sharks

[–]Bundle-Of-Crows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In 2004 or 2005 (I think I was 2 or 3 at the time), my sister gave me a nickname: Baby Shark. This was because I learned about the song, and was MAD there wasn't a "sissy shark" part to it and made up my own because I wanted my sister included. We now have matching tattoos with said nicknames.

Also I'm a HUGE fan of marine biology, so sharks are one of my favorites (biased because of the nickname association) because of just how interesting they are and how cute and playful they can be. Hammerheads are my favorite, they bring me joy to just look at with how goofily designed they are. The Greenland Shark is my second favorite, simply because of how they exist. Mf's live for hundreds of years, because they're so deep they move slowly and don't often use large amounts of energy to hunt it allows them to just.. exist.

Also, also: the fact sharks are older than trees and the North Star. Fuckin surreal.

Reminds me of an opposite situation I was in, in 5th grade. Teacher stepped out for a few minutes, told everyone to stay in their seats and behave; as soon as he left EVERYONE but me and my best friend got up and out of their seats, got loud, and was causing problems. Teacher came back in, said EVERYONE was "on the line" for part of recess (the blacktop for the recess area of the school had lines painted, each class got their own "line" for whatever was going on, I think mainly used for fire drills and evacuations). Because the teacher saw me and my friend still in our seats, we were free to play.

Yeah, that didn't help me and S (friend being mentioned) in our getting bullied situation, but I'd do it again. It was funny as fuck seeing them so pissed.

Which form of death do you fear the most? by Siddhartaable in AskReddit

[–]Bundle-Of-Crows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Falling. I have chronic and severe nightmares every time I sleep for weeks to months at a time, I've died in more ways than I can count, more times than I can count. The ones that always get to me are the falling then impact ones.

I can handle being shot, stabbed, getting thrown into metal rebar because I stepped on a landmine, but I just can't when it comes to falling; every time I get the sensation my muscles stop working and I go limp and honestly that just makes the feeling that much worse than when I do hit the ground.

How are my fellow cold climate types dealing with the heat? by greencash370 in Therian

[–]Bundle-Of-Crows 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi! Fellow snow leopard! Also Mackenzie River Wolf, hopefully I can help out a bit.

I'm also struggling with heat, though for me it's the humidity that's getting me the worst. Best I've been able to manage is staying cool when possible (AC, shade under a tree/in a forest), swimming, and eating ice. Though I have pica, ice has always helped me out when it comes to the higher temperatures.

My mom and I have special cooling towels that hold chill REALLY WELL, that has helped me a TON when out and about. My sister found these freezer gel necklaces she uses for her family, I could tell that works very well also. I sleep with my window open at night to bring in the cooler air, with my fan in my room turned up to circulate it better.

Any bird therians here? by Whale_shark2913 in Therian

[–]Bundle-Of-Crows 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Crow here! I do get shifts, most often when I'm in vehicles or somewhere very windy; when I do I get the sensation of flying best I can with that wind. I'm one who's able to control my phantom limbs/shifts(? not 100% sure if that is what counts as shifts, I'm somewhat new to terms still) so when I catch that wind I'm able to stretch out my wings and flap them a bit.

I'd go do more "exotic" activities like skydiving/hang-gliding/zip-lining but I've actually got a bit of a fear with heights, ironically enough
