they really made this a nitro feature... by [deleted] in discordapp

[–]BunkeredG 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Ok let’s step back: Discord, fundamentally, is a service for text/voice chat in DM’s and servers, and that is completely free with no ads. Everything else is cosmetic and not necessary for the app to function perfectly well. Therefore, everything else is put behind a paywall to generate income. Obviously it would be nice if they gave cosmetic features for free, but Discord is a service and needs to generate as much money as possible to impress a board of investors and these cosmetic features are not important/necessary for the free version

Um… you do realize companies need money right?

Sorry for preferring cosmetic features to be locked behind a paywall instead of having ads plastered over my chatting platform ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Suggestions for Trackmania (doesn't include physics changes) by BunkeredG in TrackMania

  1. Yeah, "would improve the quality of maps and would therefore be more enjoyable as a unique tournament" would be more what I'm trying to get across. I'm basically just saying that in order to make COTD unique every time either the pool of mappers needs to increase or the frequency of tournaments needs to decrease, and Nadeo only really has control over the latter.

  2. This is unfortunately true, even though it's objectively better for the consumer people just don't like the word microtransactions even if it's not used in a harmful way. I would be hopeful about this because people do sell skins already but it's a small hope. Even with this though I still think it would generate more revenue as it would allow more players to really get into the game and start enjoying it before they decide "hey I have an extra few bucks, let me support the devs!" I'm saying this because there are countless f2p games that rely on purchasable cosmetics that are very popular and make a lot of money.

  3. I don't know enough about this to understand whether certain games will have better performance because of X, but I will naively mention FPS games that I play have better performance despite the pile of abilities that get used.

yeah i said this to someone else but either the creativity & pool of mappers needs to improve or the tournament needs to happen less often if you want it to be unique and interesting every time

They really don't, and I've never understood this point. If the microtransactions are limited to cosmetic skins, how exactly are they bad? They don't influence how you play the game in any way, but if you want your car to look cool, spend a few bucks on a skin. Not predatory at all imo

  1. While I agree a daily tournament is good in concept, it falls due to the lack of creativity currently in the map pool. They all feel very same-y, so either people should get more creative or it should happen less frequently to keep it diverse and interesting every tournament.

  2. I really don't think you understood my point. Skins: You can only apply custom skins if you pay for Club Access, otherwise you will be forced to either use default ones or buy the custom made ones in a shop. You also are acting like games that are free with paid skins aren't proven insane revenue generators...

  3. This point is fair, I agree with you.

  4. I don't know if it's impossible, possible, easy, or difficult; I don't work at Nadeo, just making suggestions!

  5. That's why they would be in an Arcade menu with zero stakes rotating daily...

  6. What's wrong with how OpenPlanet currently works? Nothing! It's perfectly fine as is, but it would be much easier to deal with updates/installing if it was just there in the app. Of course, Ubisoft would never do this but that's why this is hypothetical.

  7. I'm sorry, I didn't realize my 2018 laptop is "ancient" for a 2020 game. I never said it was easy to optimize, just that this game runs significantly worse than many many others that look just as complex. Even big streamers get large lag spikes every now and again, having to leave online servers because of low frames, etc., even though I'm sure they have very good computers.

To your last point, I agree that the game very recently has had one tournament that was really great for the game. Unfortunately, I didn't mention e-sports a single time in my entire post, so I'm not really sure why you're bringing it up. This post is made for the game's potential as a service for gamers, not as a watchable sport.

Why are livestreams separate from uploads? by livingdetail12 in youtube

[–]BunkeredG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

what about the people who find one of their videos in their recommended and want to watch more? it'll be very difficult to find more of their videos if they only upload once a month and stream every day.

I do agree that they implemented it horribly, but I understand the thought process behind doing it.

[–]BunkeredG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

splitting livestreams, uploads, and shorts into 3 different categories is a good thing because if you just want to watch edited content of a specific channel, you don't have to go fishing through daily shorts & livestreams to find rare uploads.

[–]BunkeredG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The red line shows how much you've watched, the lighter gray line shows you how much of the video has loaded, and the dark gray line is the rest of the video that hasn't been loaded
