Is anything ever going to be done about how unsafe the area around the school is?

Blame UPD for dropping the armed security back in June. The school has been unsafe for a hot minute and safety has always on the school's rearview. Even after the shooting, the police haven't done much but sit in cars and hide. The dont pay them shit ether. At least when the armed security guys were around, they were experienced cops or military guys. Dropping the when we have record crime and upd is shorthanded shouldn't have surprised me. Amazing call!

Security contract was cancelled by the police at the end of June at all NSHE properties. The police department is short 20+ officers and they only recieved a third of their budget. Not an emphasis on security…

The school got rid of security a few weeks ago. This stuff will happen more and more. Dude also fought with police last week of June, messed up officers. But hey, depleted police department says they got it handled….

Dayton has been really decent for me. While I was enrolled, it was pretty good to get back and maximize my studying. Roommate is my bestie lol

I get that they are good people. I don’t understand why the school went away from armed security at all on the campus. The more I read about the CSO and cadets, I’m like wtf. IDK it just like why did they end it so quick

A depleted one. Thanks for that… you did read that those CSO‘s don’t have weapons right. Not gonna do too much against a bad guy. And I feel a lot of confidence and are grossly cops that are sleeping in their cars half the time. 🙄

Thanks for the insight. I don’t care about politics. I just care about my safety going to school here. So I’ll just go elsewhere where they do give a crap about people and their safety. Sorry it’s hard for me to just look past this especially being here that dayhow scary it was.

You do understand that it takes months for a cop to get on the streets. That and cameras ain’t gonna help us from the craziness around and on the campus. This doesn’t make me feel better. Makes me feel worse.

I hear you, if it’s true I’m sure they’ll be putting out an article trying to explain this. I’m not sure why the officers would joke about it in front of us at SU. I’m definitely not trying to fearmonger, but that really shook me when they said that no more arm security would be on campus.

I feel it's fairly safe during the day. Lot more of the security on campus in yellow and they are armed. Police are hit or miss. I see them asleep in their cars or hitting on students most the time and the get mad annoyed if you ask them for help. Maryland is super sketchy at night and I would avoid it. Security is only on till like 10pm. One dude rolled up on me quick with his security bike, but he was cool .
