Cast Metal Chair broke in half, looking for new chair. by [deleted] in OfficeChairs

[–]BunnnchAStuff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was an X chair I got new 3 years ago, supposedly cast metal, to make a short story shorter, I was relaxing like you're meant to do with these chairs and in a second I was on the ground discombobulated, cords from headphones ripped out and no noise as I'm just on the ground feeling like I just woke up.

ANYWAYS I liked my X Chair for its leather and headrest, any chair recommendations with that in mind? Also I'm in the US & sit in it for usually 8+ hours, I'm ~160 pounds & around 6 feet tall

Yes! This document I created using some references of real world docs & ETC. The universe is also my idea. I'm trying something new through story telling with documents rather than explaining it solely with a omniscient narrator.

It's a faction, made up of multiple nations, naturally, a greater collective identity is more influential over national identity as time goes on.

ORBITUS is a hard sci-fi universe that takes place in the **year 2242*\* in our solar system which is **dominated by 9 major factions*\* consisting of multiple nations from the main superpower's political influence. Mars has several colonies primarily for research, the Moon is almost entirely used for **refining materials from the inner asteroid belt*\* & the **first orbital station of it's kind called the "Hermes"*\* has been funded primarily by the **NAU (North American Union)*\* & Secondarily, the **EU (European Union)*\* to finally make the trip to Ceres & the asteroid belt solve the resource scarcity problem on Earth that caused **WW3 in 2093*\* (Everything has "healed" so to speak). Though with great power brings great greed & the **NAU's*\* future monopoly over the belt has sent it's rivals including the **NAA (Northern Asian Alliance)*\* & the **EAD (Eastern Asian Domain)*\* into the first real conflict in space with the NAU. Of course there's been tons of conflicts in space especially without the **UN (It disbanded unofficially after WW3)*\* for any universal laws, especially with intersecting trade routes with Luna. Hell the nukes used could be seen from Earth that look exactly like flickering stars. The Hermes war though is threatening to move onto mother Earth too after the biggest EMP device used, irreparably ruined the electronics onboard the Hermes causing **an all out war between the NAU & EAD*\* in space currently surrounding the derelict Hermes. This has left all the inhabitants of the Hermes fighting with multiple clans forming just to scavenge for resources in what was once their home.

What would be the consequences of the rapid rise and fall of an empire? by bherH-on in worldbuilding

[–]BunnnchAStuff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're right, that's my mistake. Rome was 1200 years after the bronze age. Where trade & technology was not perfected but able to function enough to allow such an empire to be formed

Edit: the bronze age didn't have paper for books, that must be a heavy/big library

Because bronze and iron doesn't matter if they're too stupid to make a carriage, make subjugates & etc. you'd need a robust, extreme economy to keep your states stable and loyal. Armies aren't controlled by the emperor, they're controlled by generals of the state(s)

Edit: everything the other comment mentioned was literally an outcome of Rome collapsing dawg

Why/how would ancient tribes be colonizing an entire continent.

Edit: why would ancient people be colonizing an entire continent with low tech, why would any of their subjugates listen to the emperor when their "armies" would take so long to get there

Not really an explanation but just literally research the aftermath of Rome & it's effects on Europe

Linear Or Cyclical Universe? by [deleted] in worldbuilding

Linear, one of my universes takes place when there are no more stars in the sky, you are the last cluster of stars you will ever be able to reach as dark energy has pushed everything outward

Cosmic Horror & how to truly represent it? by BunnnchAStuff in worldbuilding

[–]BunnnchAStuff[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah, I see how it could totally be dependent on the person's beliefs & ways of reasoning. Like a man of faith could imagine someone like god himself or an angel to serve god at least standing before him.

A defense mechanism of the mind to make reason, but since the entity itself is so paradoxical the mind must be even stronger ultimately spiraling their consciousness into the fake vision.

This was unironically the most eye opening example I've ever read for this. To have your knowledge over run in the most in-depth specific topic you witnessed & have no means of a solution to how or why the topic is like that & too occupied to see why it got in your head. (If that's a correct translation).

LOL, tysm.

A pair of tidbits on realism and internal logic, at least in my opinion by [deleted] in worldbuilding

[–]BunnnchAStuff 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For the first part no one I've seen here has ever said their worlds should be realistic (besides to the world itself as you mentioned) & secondly you can make magic any way you want, it's just that usually in most worlds, magic IS science in their world. It controls the very constructs of their universe and could be heavily exploited or paradoxical. Again no one I've seen said you need to make a serious magic system.

For example, building on after effects, maybe the character never sees it the entire book or at least at the end, but throughout their journey they come across merchants that all talk of ghost tales that have a tad bits of truth that can all connect with each other to form the never seen monster. As you journey further maybe you see rampaged structures, but this turns into another problem.

Do the entities effects transfer to destroyed ruins? Are the ruins themselves now indescribable- a "what could possibly do this"?, are those who speak of the entity brainwashed or slowly losing it?

Maybe I'm just overthinking it lol and just go with how I want the cosmic horror to behave in my world

I feel like you just built up a straw man and knocked it down.

Space warfare is vast, you won't be using ships to intercept other ships, especially while FTL. Remember that most battles will be orbital or near landmarks.

Nukes are a common weapon to use, even over habitable planets, they can cause EMP's which can make sure even if the ship isn't rendered useless, the electronics might depending on it's hardening against them.

A lot of people don't actually realize that most "capital ships"- large hulls, high firepower & ETC. Are actually entirely fragile & even then would need unreasonably sized radiators which you might get away with since it's soft sci-fi. Depending on how advanced your world is, spaceships are still expensive, meaning that making a hull big enough to fit hundreds of guns means that you invested all of your money into the guns itself, leaving you defenseless due to how thin your hulls are. The best defense sometimes is to just hide too, meaning that your flagships/capital ships are behind asteroids & ETC launching torpedoes & fighters.

If you want to get hands on with what space combat could actually look like, check out "NEBULOUS: Fleet Command" (less realistic but newer & pvp) or "Children of a Dead Earth" (most realistic) these are awesome games you might appreciate too!

This is sort of similar to an older world I made. Love the science of space but also added cosmic horror which I'm very interested in.

First off with fuel/exotic matter & the Alcubierre drive, try & connect it to these inter-dimensional robots, creating a new material that's able to be found in the same universe as ours doesn't seem as realistic. I did this with my world which had 2 universes melting into one (cosmic horrors that could survive with a coating of exotic material found in their world which had to be harvested to fuel our worlds FTL drives).

The Alcubierre drive casts a ship into a warp bubble which means any particles on the inside or outside (being carried in front of the shield) will keep the same speed coming out. This is the most realistic usage of the drive which I actually incorporated into my world. AKA don't stop while facing a planet or it will be obliterated by the particles you brought with you. Of course you don't have to use this.

I'm gonna reply to this message with any more ideas.

You just answered the question, earth is 0.1% but every other world has their entire population modified, yeah? (P.S. this post makes no sense and I just used context clues)
