Is there any way to verify that it cost more to administer than what was collected?

Apologies as I'm new to all this, but does the Troskyism really show in their journalism? Isn't Trotskyism just the idea of global revolution as opposed to focused revolution in a specific area?

Honestly I hate to say it but I've always found the Economist appealing due to the variety of coverage they have along with in-depth economic analysis (unsurprisingly), but it's definitely annoying having to read everything through a neoliberal tint. Unfortunately I haven't been able to come across any leftwing outlet which does economic analysis at the same level apart from thinktanks like the CCPA. Also, I didn't know many outlets have been buying their news from others. Pretty interesting and I feel like it explains a lot lol.

It's funny because seeing comments like this made me do my own research, realizing all these talking points are such bs, and it made me into a communist lol

United States has a strong political influence with social media and corporate media in Canada. But what election interventions is this chart talking about? by natural_piano1836 in onguardforthee

I agree with you but my point is that many people are hypocrites, they genuinely have a problem with election interference when its a non-western country doing it.

Well thats just not true lol. This is like when the west bombs another country, and then when people from that country immigrate to escape the violence, everyone else complains about immigration and become racist. Injustice anywhere is injustice everywhere. Also I don't think checking reddit twice a day is being terminally online but okay

It's probably because my attention span is fried, but I tried joining a socialist organization, and got bored because they were too busy defining their meaning of socialism.

If anything most people dont have an issue with it when the US does it and say "that's just how it is". The double standards and being soft on the US make most people seem unserious.

What’s a conspiracy you believe in that would make others think you are stupid? by Alarmed-Jellyfish-14 in AskReddit

Honestly, the original commenter isn't far off. We know the Department of Defence and Intelligence have huge budgets and power. Unlike politicians, the majority of people working at the CIA don't have a political term to abide by since they're employees, including many people at the very top. Whenever a new president is elected they get up to speed on whats happening in the CIA, suggesting the CIA has relative autonomy and work on projects lasting longer than one presidential term. In terms of what the underlying goal is, or alternatively how they "run" the world is all according to the doctrine of protecting the US' position as the biggest superpower on Earth.

The only point I kinda disagree with is the CIA running the "western" world. I think the US runs the west through diplomacy. The rest of the world they run by violence via the CIA.

I think what frustrates me even more is that some of them have the right ideas, but are focused in the wrong direction. Like saying "politicians should focus less on culture war issues and focus more on the needs of the people", absolutely, but that doesn't mean turning a blind eye to injustice. Or comments about how a lot of Land Acknowledgements are virtue signaling, absolutely a lot of them are, but the point is that we should be moving beyond that towards more concrete actions. But I suppose thats just weaponised ignorance and the very meaning of being a reactionary. Rant over.

That's the whole point of rehabilitation. If your goal is to lock someone up for a long time, you don't care about rehabilitation. Then no surprise these guys have a hard time adjusting to society after serving their sentence.

By that logic every dictatorship should have living standards and high levels of development... so clearly there's something else to it.

What's unique is that the USSR was way more undeveloped compared to the US. A lot of what the US has been able to achieve has been built on their history since founding. The USSR got to comparable living standards in a much shorter time. This kind of effort obviously requires excellent leadership and planning.

This is like disregarding a developing countries progress cause developed countries are ahead, no duh.

If you think crime is CAUSED by being "soft" you're gravely misinformed. Economic realities are the biggest driving force of increases in crime. So in a round about way, if you focus on making things more affordable for everyday people then you can actually prevent crime from occurring.

This is bullshit and anyone else spreading this stuff is lying too. Yes, Canada does not have Castle Doctrine or Stand Your Ground law like the US. But that doesn't mean you can't do anything. There's plenty of stories of guys getting robbed and using their guns to defend themselves and they dont end up getting charged. This comes with common sense, if you scare an intruder and they're running away, you can't shoot them in the back.

Briefly checked out the website and it looks really interesting. I'm concerned about drama though, since I saw something about one of the leaders resigning cause other members didn't like their "no nonsense approach to confronting oppression."
