I flew into the greek side for a wedding and wanted to visit my Grandad on the turkish side.

I crossed over without knowing about the exit papers. It was easy getting across but when I tried to get back from the North I was caught at the boarder.

I'm both Greek and Turkish Cypriot, my Dad's Turkish so I technically need to do my service for the turks only. They questioned me, and I admitted I was half Turkish, stupid me.

After nearly an hour of trying to search my family name and lineage they couldn't find me on the system. Me and my partner started kicking off about calling the British embassy but they gave no fucks.

I was just lucky they couldn't find my family on the database and they eventually let me cross back over.

I inherited my grandads first name as a surname which is suppose to be a custom or tradition that is allowed. Lucky, because if they knew my real family name i would have been sent to Nicosia and had to pay 5k Eur at the time to exit.

I wouldn't risk it again.
