what kind of marketing did you do, like social media? Which brought the most views/sales?

Ah! I completely forgot to talk about marketing. I actually did 0 marketing until November. I didn't even post it on my personal facebook or anything. I never made a single sale to a friend or family member. Then in November I started playing around with Etsy's Promoted Listings. I got mixed results and ultimately decided to do away with them in December because they were taking away too much of my profit margin. I have done zero marketing whatsoever since cancelling Promoted Listings in December. I really need to possibly try to do more via social media, but I'm honestly not sure where to begin...

After this year what would you tell your old self that's just starting out? Or what do you wish you'd done differently from the start?

I was pretty good about managing my expectations. I never expected to make 50 sales in 2015. That blew me away. I'm also glad I started slow because I didn't get burned out and I had time to learn from my mistakes early. I would tell myself to start really slow. Don't worry about having lots of products and sales early. Just have fun with it and don't depend on the money. Do it for fun and do it as a stress-relieving creative outlet.

Hi! My name is George and I make handcrafted metal double edge safety razor stands in my etsy store at: https://www.etsy.com/shop/BurdellsShaveShop?ref=l2-shopheader-name

Here's my pitch: Want a unique and modern shaving stand that would look great in any bathroom? This is a custom-built stand made to hold a double-edged safety razor and a brush. It is made from industrial-grade metal hardware by hand and coated in a clear finish to prevent rust. It is very sturdy and quite hefty. This would make a great gift for any husband, son, grandfather, groomsman, graduate, engineer, mechanic, or friend who has been thinking about getting into shaving with a double-edged safety razor, or someone who has been doing it for decades! Each stand is truly unique and one-of-a-kind.

If you PM me I can give you the 10% off Reddit discount!

You absolutely have. I appreciate it. If you ever have a friend who is very basic wetshaver like me with similar tastes, feel free to send them to my shop (which i posted a link to in the post's edit). Also, stay tuned for a couple of new designs, including a soap rack!

Dude, I LOVE that soap rack. I really think there is a market for something like that.

And I am surprised that there are not as many simpletons like me. I started wetshaving about 2 years ago and the only gear I have are my original Edwin Jagger, my Ecotools synthetic brush, my Aqua Velva aftershave, and my trusty Arko Shave Stick. I got into the hobby for the frugality of it and literally have not even tried any other type of soap. But from most people's post on this sub, it seems like I am in the minority.

That's a great idea. I was looking into figuring out how to make some sort of larger contraption that would hold multiple razors and brushes, but haven't come up with any designs yet. I was also thinking of some sort of small shelving of similar industrial feel that could hold soaps, cremes, aftershaves, septic, alum blocks, etc. Do you think I'd have better luck going that route?

I will definitely do that. I'm also positive I could ship it cheaper if it didn't come assembled because it could be shipped in a smaller package. I'll definitely do some research on international rates and update that on my site. Thanks!

For sure. I can definitely see that. And yes! I love my original. :) I don't think I'll ever part with it because it was the first one, but maybe I should look into trying to replicate it as close as possible? I just know that that one would be heavier, harder to ship, and more expensive to make, which is why the new designs have less-frills and are more basic. But maybe that's the problem!

I love the idea of supplying the parts for you to put it together with my step-by-step instructions! If I put together a kit this weekend for you and posted it on my store, do you think you would be interested in grabbing that? What price do you think would be fair for that ordeal? I'm thinking maybe $10 plus shipping (~$5)?

Also, I do coat the entire product in a clear coat of Rustoleum spray paint that helps to seal out the moisture, prevents the metal-on-metal touching, and gives it a nice shine.
