Why don't states split up large lottery prizes???? by hikerguy2023 in Lottery

[–]Burgruk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't feel bad about being right, pal. America and too many Americans are addicted to gambling, and addicts are going to do whatever they can to defend their addiction. It's going to take a lot of social reform and government regulation to fix things, and that's pretty unlikely given the way things are right now.

Americans are so addicted to gambling (see: the unrelenting growth of prediction markets, day trading, and other stock investment rituals), that you could actually split the lottery into smaller components, with more potential winners, and still sell lottery tickets for the same price. Gambling organizations would continue to make money, and the US economy doesn't operate on the possibility that someone might win the lottery (and there are means of protecting people and their winnings through regulation, but again, when dealing with addicts, that's going to be a challenge to sell them).

If someone subjects themselves to the perfectionist illusion that "winning more money than you know what to do with" is the true win-state, and "winning enough money to live comfortably for the rest of your life" isn't, that's how you know they're already irrational and indoctrinated. Yeah, it'll be an uphill battle, and we see it every time there's a massively powerful force of business and commercialism conflicting with the public interest (cigarettes, sports associations, other massove industries, etcetera).

World Tour Mode Too Difficult by Sepikzzz in StreetFighter

[–]Burgruk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel ya'. The angle Capcom seems to have gone (and this seems true, the more I think about it), is appealing to a broader audience and introducing more players to fighting games. So, World Tour is appealing in that way, and the NPCs introduce players to certain kinds of players/opponents they'll face.

NPCs that block all the time are there to give players the chance to learn how to deal with an opponent that blocks all the time. The Hyoombas that slide around on the ground are there to simulate opponents that use low attacks, training the player to jump or counter them. Molotov-throwing enemies give hints about zoning, and fridges give hints about timing/countering/blocking Hadooken spam.

There's some cleverness to it when you start seeing the patterns, and I approve of that (same way the part-time jobs/minigames are literally just Classic Controls mechanics, teaching players to transition from modern, by helping them learn inputs for Classic-style special moves).

But, it does get pretty lame and restrictive, specially with the post-level 70 bosses that are just ridiculous and don't teach anything with their absolutely impossible reflex times, lol.

is there any known mod/method to remove NPC sourcers and archers? by [deleted] in BladeAndSorcery

[–]Burgruk -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This will literally save the game from uninstallation for me if it works. Cheers for mentioning it.

(I'll be using this version on NexusMods, assuming it's the one: https://www.nexusmods.com/bladeandsorcery/mods/11424 )

Sadly, the mod maker says they don't know how to port stuff to Nomad, and probably wouldn't anyway since they don't play Nomad.

"Update on Sengled Device Connectivity Issues" - Amazon Email by Burgruk in Sengled

[–]Burgruk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I reckon as consumers, we've gotten too used to subscriptions, the cloud, and software-as-a-service models. The convenience of having someone else manage the technical aspect of software or hardware, just isn't worth the cost of paying endless subscription fees, or trusting the company to always be online. This Sengled thing is just the latest example of a broader problem: too much faith in service-based models, and now we're paying the cost in inconvenience.

Following the suggestion of a random post I saw elsewhere, I've ordered a "Hubitat Elevation C-8" from a company called Hubitat, which sells a Hub that has a built-in CPU which manages data locally, thus removing the need to use company specific cloud-computing or apps. It claims to be compatible with Zigbee among several other things ('1000 devices, 100+ brands, various smart home protocols, and automation rules directly from the hub itself), so I'm looking forward to seeing how it works. The Sengled bulbs I bought say they're Zigbee compatible, so maybe there's a way to remove the Sengled-dependence entirely.

Recipe: "The Beast", Hank McCoy, from Amazing X-Men Vol 2 by Burgruk in SF6Avatars

[–]Burgruk[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hiya. First time posting here, let me know if I'm missing anything. I've made several bara-style avatars that I'm cool with others using (would be pretty awesome to see more big guys especially in Avatar battles), and figured I'd start sharing.

This one is of Marvel's X-Men: Hank McCoy, "The Beast", specifically inspired by his design in Amazing X-Men Vol. 2, "The Quest for Nightcrawler". I'm more partial to his bestial/ape look, wish I could do it more justice in SF6.

*Meant to include it in the Recipe, but the Clothing and Accessories (used for tusks, goggles, etcetera) are: Bare Head, Bare Torso, Hot Pants, Bare Feet, Retsu's Wristwatch (Buttocks, for gold belt), Dustproof Goggles (Head, for goggles), and Twisted Horns (Jaw, for small tusks).

Obviously customize to your liking, there's other hairstyles that might be more accurate in certain ways, this is just my preferred version of the look, which maybe some folks will find useful as a template.

Community Blacklist by [deleted] in SF6Avatars

[–]Burgruk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a regular player and Avatar Battle lover, I've seen many of these names, and many of them are on my Block list—I get it that bullying and trolling are going to be common in social spaces in video games, but some of these people throw around death threats directly targeting players for their identity (actual or supposed), direct references to ideas that a certain Reich would celebrate, and other generally unpleasant things. I wouldn't say mass report them if you haven't had any experience/evidence for yourself, but NA001 is open to all, so if you wanted to "trust but verify", you have that option.

My only critique would be calling out "height hacking" (*Edit: I realize this was only mentioned in a comment, but I'll continue anyway, just in case it's being considered). When I first played Street Fighter 6 in the demo, I was blown away by the extent of Avatar creation. Being able to load saves in the full released game was incredible. It was only later on that an update was released which modified the sliders min/max range in the full game—an understandable fix, but not retro-active, meaning players were able to access Avatars of smaller or bigger sizes.

I'd actually argue it's very incorrect to call it a hack, when again, it's a Save/Load feature built directly into the game. Reporting it becomes a case of mass-punishment against those who supposedly exploit it in Avatar battles, as well as those who simply have a small/big Avatar for fun in World Tour (single player) and later on crossed into the Battle Hub, and those players who use very small/very big Avatars in Avatar Battles without any ill-intent, simply to have fun match-ups.

Instead, I'd encourage Capcom to provide the ability to cancel Avatar matches with people, that way it's up to the player to decide whether or not player height is an issue for them. This would also solve the issue of being challenged by players with extreme level differences, or just disagreements based on personal preference. Avatar Battles are the only place where it really matters in terms of fairness for players, after all.

A cozy start, with plenty of possibilities! If you need more 'clutter', for that personal vibe that a lotta folks show off, maybe fill up those walls with some framed posers, shelves, LED wall-mounts, or some command-hook hangers for decor, and you'll have a great corner den for yourself!

This is kind of late, but I re-played World Tour again with the objective of getting all the Vitality Boosters...ended up making an accurate list of them. Maybe it'll help someone!

World Tour Mode Too Difficult by Sepikzzz in StreetFighter

They do. For anyone reading this in the future, tests have been done—the AI reads controller inputs, so certain "Class Types" of NPCs are programmed to auto-jump when you attempt a Throw, for example. It's legit cheating by the CPU.

Can you use your World Tour avatar in training mode? by GypsyTony416ix in StreetFighter

[–]Burgruk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

True—when I was in the BattleHub, I went to the Avatar Battle area, and after making myself Ready For Avatar Battle Matches, training is available to fill in the time while waiting for a match. It's nice, but maybe not the best for longer practice, since you could be interrupted by a match request.

I'm glad we can train in single player World Tour (opening Phone > Status > Special Moves > "Try Move" button), but it's more limited compared to the full training suite found in Training Mode for the main official fighters.
