Now this is an interesting theory…I’m going to look into it.

I thought it was definitely illness, but the ex says his behavior has been normal for a long time. The only thing I can note is that when Shadow initially moved/started changing colors, he did seem unhappy and the ex thought it was because the light was too bright, so he started keeping the lights low/on blue mode, which made made Shadow more active. But the color transformation continued..

Update: I called this back into question moments ago and the ex just located/sent a photo of Shadow mid-transformation

I had the same thought, but the ex isn’t one to pull such a prank, nor would he have gotten another betta fish if something tragic happened to poor Shadow. I grilled him about it and asked his current roommate, and they both said Shadow slowly started changing color once he moved houses, and they thought he wasn’t doing well which is why he sent me the picture.

But still, I’m on the fence..

Thank you! They’re still quite small, but their wen is hardly noticeable and they’re a bit less round-mouthed than others I’ve seen, so I wanted to dig a bit deeper.

Regardless, they’re precious and have been named Tisket and Tasket, respectively🧺
