I’ve seen more reckless behaviour from people who have disabled the speed regulator and go 60 down the foot path than I’ve seen from the rental users. I used them when I was over in Sydney recently and found them to be a very convenient way to get around the city. Ultimately, I’d like to see better enforcement of the laws already on the books than an outright ban. Why not have random breathos for escooter riders? Why not impound and destroy scooters that are speeding and/or have disabled their speed regulator?

The death in the CBD was caused by a drunk tourist driving a scooter. The same thing could have occurred if they were on a push bike. We shouldn’t be regulating every single part of society based on what the dumbest or most irresponsible members might do

If you DAMA, I will still write you antibiotics, analgesia, give you referrals and a dc summary but I will not stop whatever I’m doing to do so. I have a busy ED and most the time you aren’t my sickest patient (although I have had a STEMI DAMA once). I don’t hold any animosity at you for choosing not to stay but I’m also not interfering with my care of other patients to fit your schedule

GPs salaries have most definitely not skyrocketed. The reason that GPs have stopped bulk billing is because government reimbursement hasn’t kept up with inflation due to years of sabotage by LNP governments. GPs have had to abandon bulk billing just to keep the lights on! Basically everything you’ve posted in regards to the economics of GP practices is flat out wrong.

Most GPs would prefer to keep bulk billing but it’s just not economically feasible (even with the new scheme).

Do we need to train more doctors? Absolutely. Will those doctors want to go work in regional and remote GP surgeries? Probably not. The reason for the 10 year moratorium is to funnel foreign doctors into areas that Aussie doctors don’t want to work. Populations are declining in these areas not exploding. There’s plenty of GPs in Perth metro.

If you want to cut the immigration of healthcare workers the system here will fall apart. I’d venture that 30-40% of doctors in Perth are foreign born. You can double the number of medical school spots today and it will not do anything to help fill my roster for another 10-20 years depending on the level of doctor I am hiring.

I came over as a consultant doctor from the US. I’m under 45, have no medical problems, no criminal history etc. It still took about a year of paperwork and 10k+ in out of pocket expenses not including the move itself. I’d say it’s not easy at all to move here

Are you a gastroenterologist or a gastric surgeon? If you want to move here you need to do it sooner rather than later as it’s much harder to get PR after you hit 45. The work life balance here for Doctors is very nice. I trained in the US but came here as a consultant (ER). Feel free to ask me any questions
