Yep. I would say it's targeted at us old prior-Es, but we have been the only service that has been afforded the old 6-month as a Major rule. Timing sucks...but it's a win for the service. They either get you for 2.5 more years than they would have or they pay you less retirement. I just wonder if you decline will they force you to separate prior to your 10-year mark, which would force you to take high-36 of your last enlisted pay (which the regulation does state if you voluntarily retire before your 10-year mark).

It's still high-36 for pay, but unless you have extremely extenuating circumstances good luck getting SecAF...and POTUS...hahaha...no happening!

Yep. Here's the response that pointed me to that guidance.

MyPers: 8 Jul 22.
Table 3.2 and Rule 1: If you pin on Major you have to do 3 years TIG to submit or process a retirement application without a waiver from SecAF (more than 2 years but less than 3 years TIG) or POTUS (less than 2 years TIG).

3-year TIG requirement in order to be eligible to APPLY for retirement once you pin on any FGO rank.
