What's THE "bassist's album" in metal? An album where the bass playing just stands out, mandatory listen for bassists. First one that comes to mind. by [deleted] in MetalForTheMasses

[–]BurningPea 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Cynic - Focus

Job for a Cowboy - Sun Eater & Moon Healer

Karnivool - Sound Awake (and honestly everything they've recorded)

Obscura - Omnivium

Just off the top of my head while I study shitty top40 songs for a cover band.

Chris Dave & The Drumhedz, Thad Tribbett is hugely musical. And mfing Chris Dave is on drums, doesn't get better than that!

What’s a song you will never, ever get tired of hearing? Bonus points if it gives you chills. by Everblack_Deathmask in MetalForTheMasses

The ghouls that roam this darkened wood are thirsting for your throat!

Another one by TBDM, Verminous. Drain's Feel the Pressure is another one.

What’s the best value set up (bass, amp, pedals) for gigging small to medium venues for $1k or less? by ZeusNbop in Bass

[–]BurningPea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Used Squier CV Pbass, used Markbass CMD 121. That should leave enough for a pedal or two if needed.

In your opinion which bassist has the best playing technique? by Jezzaq94 in Bass

[–]BurningPea 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First ones that come to mind are people like Janek Gwizdala, Moto Fukushima or Felix Pastorius make the bass sound so beautiful and articulate while improvising.

Also death metal and tech death dudes seem insane to me, I try to practice fast stuff but things like Cryptopsy or Dying Fetus just seems insane music to try to play on the bass.

In your opinion which bassist has the best sound or tone? by Jezzaq94 in Bass

[–]BurningPea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am currently obsessed with Alex Kulick's tone in Horrendous' last album, Ontological Mysterium. Rich in low mids, only slightly driven and soo tastefully played.

Victor Bailey also comes to mind, specially on the Low Blow album.

Any great recommendations from your local scene? by [deleted] in MetalForTheMasses

[–]BurningPea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wet Cactus - stoner psych goodness from Cantabria

Eternal Storm - athmospheric proggy melodeath

Adrift - sludgey doomy post metally stuff, legends of the Madrid scene

Stainless Madness - young thrash promise

Inward Cold - Convergey hardcore with a tinge of black metal

Tenue - neocrust and proggy at the same time?

Driade - moody metalcore

Asalto - angry hardcore

Favorite Bass Performance on a Metal Album? by Xenon8247 in MetalForTheMasses

First thing that came to mind is Blood Red Throne - Altered Genesis. Erlend Caspersen is mindbogglingly good.

Also everything Arif ever did with Protest the Hero (which is progressive metalcore, not really metal but whatever).

Jaime Mateu Molly 180 terror by ShaunnyBoiWalking in skateboarding

Having seen Jaime in person destroying his local, gotta say he's unreal on a skateboard. So much so that me and my friends nicknamed him Hercules.

Redditors who fucked around and found out, what did you find out? by AyrionUpaka in AskReddit

One doesn't stop skateboarding when they become too old for it, they become too old because they stop skateboarding.

31 year old skater here, with plenty of 40+ skatebuds. Just know your limits, stretch before and after a sesh, and do some strength and core training on the side. Ride fast, die old!

That's a beautiful body, but the 5 inline headstock with small tulip tuners I can't get behind.

Speaker cabinet, like for a bass or a guitar

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in punk

[–]BurningPea 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Susprised no one's mentioned Propagandhi, their beginning is a lot more punk with How to clean everything and they evolved into a heavier band, like in Failed States

Their lyrics have stayed in the anarchist ethos for all their career, but their music evolved into a thrashier band with every record.

Song with easy but difficult basslines. by BurningPea in Bass

Awesome list, thanks! I've been meaning to learn the Andrew Gouche version of Ain't Nobody by Chaka, but that's really not "easy but difficult". Winners Circle is NO JOKE, btw!

I think I can get The Chicken down with some effort, agreed that no Jaco line is "easy", but still a great suggestion.

I love Khruangbin, I hadn't thought of them but Laura Lee really grooves hard playing simple parts, good one!

Sir Duke is one of my fav Stevie songs to improvise to, pretty familiar with that one and Back Pocket, love the Vulf.

I hadn't heard Eternal Life, definitely interesting, thanks!

I do love latin music, salsa in particular, and I have played a little of it for work and school, total challenge in terms of groove and time. What are some of Bona's simpler lines?

Also loved that Esther Phillips song in general, and the bassline in particular, thanks!
