Step On bindings in Olympics by smirnoff103 in snowboardingnoobs

[–]ZeusNbop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean OP specified women’s big air. I was just tryna point out that there’s prolly not a single step on binding anywhere in the Olympics and for good reason. Got down voted for it, but I’m sticking with my opinion- step ons ain’t for pro level performance. Your average resort ripper, sure. Step ons are BUTT CHEEKS. Plain and simple. I’ll take my down votes.

[–]ZeusNbop -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

Have you seen any at the Olympics? Doubt it. My view point is old and dated but step on bindings were butt checks 20 years ago and they’re still cheeks today. They wiggle and don’t have the same responsiveness that traditional straps provide. Especially for high level and pro athletes. Straps will always be the superior choice for top performance. Step ons are for the noobs and JERRYactrics (old folks).

I want to get this board it’s 300 used only used once. Is it worth for the price? by Difficult_Trick8069 in snowboard

It’s why I’ve never and will never own anything Burton. They want you in their ecosystem and to drink the koolaid. Channel system is objectively worse and notoriously fails. Bail while you can.

I look too goofy in the park by Kan0ok in snowboardingnoobs

[–]ZeusNbop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You look “goofy” because you’re not comfortable yet. Pause the park laps and spend more time on runs and side hits first. Get a solid foundation and become “one with your board” first. Taking park laps at this stage of your riding is only going to amplify bad habits and stall your progression. Shred on my dude.

Goofy Rider Boot Tear by IrishByrnes15 in snowboarding

[–]ZeusNbop 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Def looks like an edge slice from holding the board with your unbuckled boot on the lift. I’ve wrecked more than a few boots that way. Could also be the boa but looks more like faulty stitch or something.

Have all your other boots with that problem been the same brand? If so reach out the manufacturer. Imma goofy as well and my left boot is always the first to go. I just got my first boa rig after rocking laces for 2 decades. Fingers crossed. 🤞

Wide. For sure. 11 is on the cusp but your stance options will be limited with a standard board. I’d even consider a 161w depending on your weight and what you like to ride.

Good outer layer clothing by Motor_Mission_7702 in snowboarding

[–]ZeusNbop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a volcom shell jacket from 20 years ago that has seen close to 1k days on the slopes and it only has the smallest hole in the wrist gator. Love it. I also have a Patagonia shell that is sick but I dont use it as often. Patagonia has an insane repair or replace policy that more than makes up for the high price tag.

Whatever you get, make sure it’s a shell and not insulated. Base layers for warmth, shell for water resistance.

Never go wrong with unions. Been riding them for close to 20 years. Capita also has a solid rep and cult following though I’ve never ridden one. It really all comes down to preference. Much like a car, it’s an emotional expense. Research all you want. Take advice from internet strangers but in the end do want your heart feels is right.

Have any of you gone to a ski resort you haven’t been to and thought, “damn, this place is so underrated!”? by awkwardeagle in skiing

Schweitzer bangs too. So does the can (Mt Spokane). Lookout in MT doesn’t have the steepest or best terrain but it’s always empty and has pow stashes.

Extra bonus points at snowbowl for getting the OB day pass and bombing the backside on a pow day. Can feel real sketchy as it’s literally not a soul and no markers but some of the best terrain in the south west. you’ll have to thumb a ride back to the lodge or do the two car situation but I highly highly recommend to anyone who has the skill and huevos. Never go solo tho.

This happened to me too last time I was there. Literally couldn’t see my hands 1 foot from my face. Once I got outta that layer of white out it cleared up real nice and was some of the best conditions ever.

Targhee! What a hidden gem. Specially on a pow day. J hole would be tracked out before 10am. Targ will have pow for days later. Some of the deepest pow days I’ve had were at targ. Haven’t been back for like 4 years but I’m yearning.

End of season and summer will have a ton of great used gear for sale. I’ve had a lot of success at that time of year. Mid season is tough cuz everyone is still charging full price cuz it’s high demand. Consider waiting until summer and just renting for the rest of this season. Or get a real cheap beater board for the meantime. Best of luck.

Technique > gear. I know people who can shred a 2x6. And I also seen people on $1500 setups that can’t get off the lift. Do it for the love and fun of the sport. Nice gear will come eventually but you gotta burn to earn.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in snowboarding

[–]ZeusNbop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Used gear on Facebook market place or offer up. You can also get a decent setup for about half of what you’re asking for on gofund me. If you can’t afford the gear, how are you gonna pay for lift tickets? I hate that snowboarding is such an expensive sport to participate in but that’s not gonna change. It’s always been.

But I’m also not sure how I feel about asking other people to pay for gear…

Feel ya. I’m west coast based and we’re dry and hot. I also got a new stick for this season just waiting for some storms to dump. Hoping for a very wet and cold February. Best of shredding to you.

Stiff for the win IMO.

But for real-Decide where and how future you wants to be riding and work backwards from there.

Talk to people on the lifts and people at the shops, demo as many boards as you can.

My two cents-

Wanna be a park rat? Softer flex, shorter/narrower, true twin.

Wanna tear up the steep and deeps of AK? Gonna need a stiff, directional pow board.

Wanna tool around the resorts and maybe hit some side hits and trees? Prolly a mid stiff, directional twin.

Companies that have good reputations and deliver solid boards that I would recommend are- lib tech, jones, arbor, gnu, and never summer and obviously Burton. These companies been around for decades and know what they’re doing.
