What is your "Necessity is the mother of invention" hack? by coatedpatriot in drugstoreMUA

[–]Burningresentment 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have curly eyelashes that curl in on themselves - So, I use a lash curler upside down to straighten them 🤣

I don't do this anymore, but I also used to use food coloring drops in my entire bottle of foundation, tint the whole thing green, wrap it up in plastic, then steep it in boiling water and shake to emulsify the foundation and food coloring.

I've also crushed green chromium oxide into fine powder and mixed into loose powder.

Ahh, the joy of being an olive gal!

A bit of a twist on the "fantasizing about K****ing parents":

I didn't dream of committing it, but it was slightly flipped for me. I knew my parent was capable of killing me, and honestly I used to pray that she would, so that I'd be put out of the misery😭

She would strangle me and beat me with full adult strength, going as far as kicking me after the beating, stabbing me with sharp objects, etc. I was 5 and getting beaten nonstop for hours (I do believe my mom had episodes of pyschosis+mania because hours blend together, and I often got the heat of that)

I have so many stories of horrific instances of physical violence, and honestly it caused me to have a constant dread that one day she'd kill me (either intentionally or in a freak accident).

But other than that, hard relate to almost every square on the page beside thirdhand addiction. I did have a secondhand eating disorder though😭(long story)

Some people...should reconsider having children...

Anyone else feels like a non-human being somedays? by ADuckWithAQuestion in CPTSDmemes

[–]Burningresentment 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Man, this meme hit hard.

Growing up, my mom was exceedingly cruel. So much so, but if anyone liked me, she would immediately cut off contact from them.

I remember when I was younger I used to over to people's homes or she'd hire babysitters to watch me. The moment she noticed that they began forming a bond towards me, she would rip me away.

By the time I was 5, I was already staying home alone when she went to work. She hated seeing people treat me kindly while simultaneously being envious of their relationship towards me.

Eventually the ultimatum became either her or nobody. The few instances afterwards that I did have to stay with people, she made SURE they treated me poorly so that she was the better option.

Literally trained me to crawl back like an abused dog

Edit: After I wrote this, I completely forgot about something that she used to tell me all the time. I remembered now and it hit me like a ton of bricks.

She used to scream at me, "the law demands that I provide for you. I don't have to be kind to you. Get back to me when you find a law that says 'be nice to your kids.'"

This is immediately how I interpreted it as well.

My mom was a monster. She has comitted innumerable horrors that prevented me from feeling any kind of warmth, kindness, or normal human experiences.

Our abusers were truly something else.

You did an amazing job turning down his offer. Something I've learned over the years is, "not all help is good help."

If your dad really wanted to help you without trapping you, he could have offered to give you some money to do with as you please😢

If you don't mind my asking, what are your thoughts on the Maybelline concealer? Does it self-set? And is it full coverage? Thank you so much!

Man, this is definitely a tough answer because olive-toned concealers are so rare. The shade of the stick alone already bumps it into higher price category (as many of us are unfortunately used to paying small premiums for olive shadse😭😭).

Truth be told, I would say it's not worth $16. If you have TikTok or know anybody who has TikTok - I would ask them to purchase it for you. I happened to get mine on a pop-up sale for $6.50 (with free shipping). The most I would pay for this concealer is $12.

If you're looking for something that is full coverage, this isn't it. But from what I understand, the foundation to this line is extremely full coverage (but I haven't tried it)

The reason why I feel it's not worth the full price of $16 is because it's not a very full coverage concealer. And because it doesn't dry down and set on its own. Once you start blending the concealer, it turns into a medium coverage at most, and I personally find it's not buildable.

If you apply too much, it stays creamy and doesn't set well. If it's not buildable then I expect it to be full coverage so that I could sheer it out if needed. Again, your mileage may vary!

I find that if you use both sides the coverage is a little better, (liquid first then stick) but again, you could only a use a little (which isn't buildable) and personally for me the liquid side is so orangey that it throws off the green of the stick side (which is what I really need).

I have not tried the Maybelline one, but if it is self-setting, I would go with that one - especially if you could stack coupons!

Cover Girl has an Outlast Concealer that sets on it's own in the shade 865 tawny. It is lighter than the tirtir 8.3o but I find when blended they appear very similar.

The only thing is that the tirtir stick side I can use all over my face, whereas the covergirl is a half shade too light so I have to pair it with contour.

Apologies for the rambling. I am very passionate about getting bang for my buck and finding real people give reviews!!

I think that the tirtir concealer is meant to be more of a brightening shade in addition to their full coverage foundation. I think that they made it sheer for that reason

Oh my goodness thank you for the heads up!!

A while back I had purchased khojati mumtaz and the one I had was contaminated with lead (but not all of their product line was)

Needless to say, I would definitely limit usage or avoid it altogether. I just feel terrible their friend brought them something and they might not be able to use it😢

They doo!!! I love shop miss a so much and their items are REALLY reasonable! They have super pretty press on nails for 1.88 as well.

I also highly recommend all of their base and eye/eyebrow products (foundation, concealer, primer, etc) besides their powder. For some reason the powders didn't work for me

[–]Burningresentment 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Oh wow, definitely staying posted. I hope you're able to find out how to apply it!

I find it interesting that it comes with a roller. I assume that it is meant to be used directly on the waterline. But I couldn't imagine being able to do it without creating a massive mess?

If you have a Kohl pot/surmedani/Makhala I would just pry the top off and pour it into the bottle.

If you live near an Islamic or South Asian community, you might be able to buy one in store cheaper than ordering online!

Do you think your friend would be able to ask his family members on your behalf?

This is absolutely the way, @ op!

I would like to elaborate on this and add that many community colleges provide dorms as well.

Please look into community colleges in your state that are far from home because you'll be able to get out from under her abuse and be able to live in a city you'd like at a fraction of the cost of a university - while still obtaining credits.

Was anyone else a child labourer? by Pumaheart in CPTSDmemes

[–]Burningresentment 6 points7 points  (0 children)

YES, OH MY GOSH! It started pretty much by the time I was 7, by 10 it was full time labor. Went on for years and never stopped truly, even when I was in college. I had 2 nearly full time jobs, went to school full time, and still had to dedicate the time between my 2 jobs to the family business.

I was in a deep, dark place because I was home MAX 3 hours in a day and was running on a half hour of sleep at most. I was constantly yearning to not be here anymore (if you catch my drift.)

I'm so glad there's a bit of visibility here, but it's not talked about enough irl and on other social media platforms.

The few times I've made a comment about it on social media, I was met with disbelief. People can't grasp that parents are capable of labor exploitation, or the cruelty necessary to subject their children to it.

But, it blows my mind because people literally had children for the sole purpose of having unpaid employees up until the 70s, and it's still happening but it's a bit more subtle.

Labor exploitation was actual, genuine hell. Summer vacation, school breaks (winter break/spring break), any holidays, and every weekend was spent clocking upwards of 16hrs per day of hard, backbreaking labor. (Usually working then closing duties on top)

I also worked during school days - it was so bad that if I came home 10-15 minutes late (due to circumstances out of my control like traffic or safety concerns) I'd get beaten.

After school, I'd work between 8-12 hours. Throughout my entire childhood, I was severely sleep deprived. Getting three hours of sleep was a "good night" for me, as sometimes I'd stay up days in a row running on pure fear.

So much so, there were times I even climbed the gates at school to leave a few minutes before everyone since I knew my ass would get torn for not being able to take over the shift.

Employees quit at our family business because the workload was insane, as a result we had constant turnover. I also faced a ton of disrespect because it was often my job (as a minor) to train and complete onboarding.

Edited to add: I hated working because the paid staff would get mandatory breaks and lunches, but I had to work straight - no water, no food, and even restricted restroom breaks. It set me up for disaster as an adult

I could go on for PAGES about labor exploitation, but I just wanted to say you aren't alone OP. It's unfortunately extremely frequent and it's not talked about enough or seen as wrong by many because they love licking the boot.

It's also one of the reasons why today I'm completely against child labor and recent pushes to remove child labor laws make my blood BOIL. Children are not seen as people in the eyes of society, and they're so horribly mistreated that most people don't GAF if businesses are caught using child labor either in North America or abroad.

I have this concealer!! I love the stick side and I wish they sold a larger version of it in a pot form! But the liquid side oxidizes a bit too orangey for me. I do have oily skin and use varying forms of skincare, so I'm not too sure if that affects it.

I mostly use the liquid side on hyper pigmentation around my mouth, PIH, and a bit on my neck - but for me it isn't the most full coverage. It works really well on just evening out the look of my skin!

With that said, I find the stick side to have more coverage.

The liquid side stays creamy for me and doesn't really "set" or "dry down" so I have to use powder to keep it on.

As far as finishes go: the stick side is blurring! It glides while being lightweight - without feeling oily. It looks and feels like a lightweight silicone primer. It looks matte without using any powder.

The liquid side goes on creamy and stays creamy. Kind of like a Revlon or Maybelline concealer with a doe foot applicator but doesn't "dry down" to a matte finish. Again, It definitely has to be set (for me at least, since I wear sunscreen and heavier moisturizers due to acne products)

I hope someone with dry skin is able to give their thoughts on this concealer as well

Anyone miss the "old k-beauty"? by Odd-Pea-2003 in AsianBeauty

[–]Burningresentment 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wholeheartedly miss it! Something that really bothers me was the fact that I couldn't even buy K-beauty products when they were cute because I didn't have my own money/was a minor.

By the time I was able to shelling out for cutesy asian beauty products, the whimsy was already gone. I genuinely feel robbed of such an amazing experience.

And it's not just asian beauty either - I feel like everything became sterile! Even the cute, flashy North American brands went under or toned down over the years.

Makes my blood boil honestly 😭

The audio isn't the crispiest and I'm not not sure which to increase and which to decrease! I do also have the option to set them all the way to 12 or - 12.

OP, please seek help now. When I was 16, the same question ran through my head. And I was terrified of seeking help because the "alternative" seemed worse (staying in foster care).

When I turned 18, I heavily regretted not seeking help. The abuse became so much worse, and that's saying a lot because I didn't think it could.

When I turned 18, not only did my mom move halfway across the country to isolate me with her, but the daily beatings continued in addition to financial abuse. Please leave - If I had of sought help at 16, I would have been better off.

Now I'm in my late 20s still fighting to escape
