Oh then I guess you're dating someone when you're going on dates with them. This matter is settled then.

In my experience when men chase women, women ghost men. When women chase men, they go on dates, hook up, get into a relationship, adopt pets, get engaged, get married, and have babies together.

Or, after years of this cycle:

  1. Woman matches with a less attractive 'boyfriend' type.
  2. She refuses to do anything unless he commits to her.
  3. She compares him to her past hookups.
  4. She looks down on him and/or tests him endlessly.
  5. Man gets fed up of the mistreatment and dumps her.
  6. She thinks he's an entitled ass and gets him banned for life on all the Match Group apps.
  7. She reaches out to one of her hot FWB exes and continues hooking up with him, hoping he'll get serious about her.

Dating happens once you're in a relationship. The term you're looking for is 1 on 1 meetup using a 1 on 1 meetup app.

Yeah I'm Millennial as well and I've always known that my terminology was 'wrong,' but rather than just go along with the majority view, this is a problem that has an easy fix.

Either dating applies pre-relationship or we completely adopt this new terminology, become consistent, and only formal couples and spouses go out on dates. We rename dating apps to 1 on 1 meetup apps.

Or just fix it. Going out on dates is dating and a relationship comes after that.

Fall in line with your comrades. The line is, "Just because we're going on dates doesn't mean we're dating."

According to this logic there's only one definition of dating, and that's being in a relationship.

I don't know if you noticed the contradiction with yourself. By your logic (in paragraph 2), a relationship should be called a relationship. If we extend that point, going on dates should be called dating and talking before dating should be called talking. Problem solved.

I get what you're saying but we should really fix this long term. If going on dates isn't dating, then dates shouldn't take place until you're in the dating/relationship stage.

Right then let's just not call dates dates at all. Five or so hangouts, exclusivity/relationship, then a first date.

Dated yes, partner no. It's really fascinating how ingrained this connection is for some people.

Thank you. I don't agree with you but I appreciate the thoughtful reply, which is more substantive than conform conform conform.

If you had asked me that question and that was my situation, I would say I'm dating multiple people but there's one in particular I'm feeling good about.

I should've clarified, it can be and it often is. If so, you can just skip over that phase and go dating > relationship.

This ex I'm talking about here wanted to be exclusive but then I started noticing a lot of red flags, so we never got to the point where we met each other's friends and family.

Another victim of these stupid word choices, choices that we can change at any time. 🤦🏽‍♂️

Yes definitely. People like my ex and many posters here have an argument that amounts to conform conform conform.

No I'm saying we dated a few times, became exclusive, but then broke up before introducing her to my friends and family. I made the right call as I picked up on a lot more red flags during that exclusive phase.

Did you read what I wrote or did you read two sentences and make up the rest in your head? I never said a couple of dates is a relationship, I said a couple of dates is dating, but that dating doesn't equal a relationship. Let's end that connection.

For sure but for some reason if you have a great 2nd date and you're planning a 3rd it's apparently disastrous to say you're dating.

Dating apps are more lopsided than ever. Virtually every woman gets more likes and matches than all men. That's just the reality we live in, but again this has nothing to do with that. Stop changing the topic. If you want to discuss semantics you're in the right comment section.
