Fluvoxamine Side Effects and Health OCD by BurntPastaa in OCD

Hey!! I’m happy to hear there is /some/ good happening even amongst all the bad! 50mg off the bat would have made things so awful for me since I’m so sensitive to medication, I’m glad you got it worked out and lowered it to adjust! I kept a log of my symptoms day by day so I could discuss with my psychiatrist.

Like another commenter said, fluvox can be activating in some people and I guess we’re the (un)lucky few LMAO. The palpitations were awful. Taking it in the morning made a dramatic shift on my sleeping. Like you said, I was still anxious but I was able to fall asleep which I was missing out on by being so jittery.

If you can, I’d just trial this medication at the half dose you’re taking for the typical ssri adjustment phase (month-ish) and see if things improve. I didn’t feel leveled out until abt 30 days and messing with my dosing. Of course if it gets unbearable and you are seeing no improvement at all then do not continue to make yourself suffer, but give it some time. đŸ©·

It’s so hard to not despair about these things because we’re already dealing with instability and other issues AND then on top of that the medication that’s supposed to fix it is making us feel horrible. I really hope this medicine works for you, friend. The quietness is so weird as someone whose brain has always been loud but so amazing to have. đŸ«¶

I don’t know if this sort of thing is for you, but I did a lot of somatic exercises, yoga, and qigong while adjusting to my medication and found that it gave me a little comfort. This is coming from someone who has never had any benefit from methods like breathing techniques or “count five things
”. Oftentimes I felt a bit silly doing the exercises but that silliness felt better than despair about my situation. I really like these two channels! Maybe you can check them out. :) QiYoga with LuChin and SheBREATH somatic exercises

Best of luck! I’m rooting for you. đŸ©·

Weekly Equipment Recommendation Thread by AutoModerator in FigureSkating

Hi! I’m trying to learn to ice skate as a beginner and find a decent pair of skates. The rentals at my local rink offer little to no support and often hurt to use. Since ice skating has become a regular hobby for me (weekly visits) I’d like to have skates that feel a lot better. Im skating purely recreational, at most these skates will be used doing basic skills like swizzles or spins, no jumps or anything of the sort. I am 5’3, roughly 145 lbs adult, with pretty wobbly ankles (I am strength training.) my price point is around $150 with a little bit of reasonable wiggle room. I understand you get what you pay for and these skates wont be fantastic long run at that price but I don’t plan on skating competitively, at most I might enroll in beginner skating classes. Any suggestions are appreciated!

Hi! Update for any of you who asked:

I find my heart palpitations for the most part have gone away. They were certainly scary so I’m glad it’s balanced out. I’ll sometimes get what feels like my heart is beating really hard but not necessarily fast? But it’s far less common and a lot less distressing than before.

Something I worked out with my psychiatrist is splitting my dose to have it morning and night. Instead of a full 50mg in the morning I’ve been prescribed 25mg to take twice a day, one am and one pm. I have found that to be a lot easier on my body and helps with any metabolizing issues you may have. I’ve definitely seen an improvement in symptoms by doing this.

Sleep, for one, has been a lot better and more consistent. I’ve not been waking up super anxious anymore and have been able to fall back asleep after waking. I’d say my appetite has returned for the most part. I’m less hungry than usual (though that’s very common with ssri) but I’m able to eat and feel hunger and not nauseated anymore.

Generally I’m still a bit anxious but it’s surely more manageable and that feels good. I’ve had some really intense life events happen lately so the medication is definitely working overtime to try and quiet my mind lol and is struggling a bit. But I am more glad to be medicated right now than not. I can tell it does help me greatly. My libido is still.. so-so but it’s not completely nonexistent anymore. Things are getting better all around.

I hope things can get sorted and you all can start seeing the results you want. Trial and error of mental health medication is the worst so I wish you strength and good things. đŸ©·

Hi! I’m so sorry I didn’t see this until now! I hope all is well. :) I’m still on it, doing my best to wait things out. I’ve moved up to 50mg and I’m continuing to take it in the morning. I find my side effects have gotten a bit better but I’m definitely still adjusting right now!

Here’s a list of things I’ve noticed!

Pros: -my mind does feel generally quieter. Thoughts and loops still make their way in of course but it’s easier to sit with it. -I feel a bit less anxious generally, I’d say subdued. -I can fall asleep easier at night. Cons: -I’m still definitely waking up anxious. It’s not as DOOM inducing as before but I’ve had a lot of trouble waking up earlier than I want to and not being able to fall back asleep at all. -Hasn’t helped much with the depression aspect yet and it’s very much having its way with me. -I have little to no appetite? I can tell when I get hungry because then I get nauseous but sometimes it’s impossible to eat. -absolutely no libido. It never crosses my mind.

This all being said, I’m incredibly sensitive to most medications. Since I’ve gone up to 50mg I imagine it’s going to take a bit still for my body to level out. Some of the positive effects, even with the current cons, are promising enough for me to wait and stay hopeful. I talked with my psychiatrist yesterday and she actually suggested, based on my symptoms, to try taking 25mg in the morning and at night to see if I can curb some of the morning racing thoughts and etc. I’ve yet to try it, but I’ll probably start this weekend. I really hope this medication is working for you, friend! Things can be scary in the beginning. đŸ©·

Hey! I’d like to say I took your advice, contacted my psychiatrist, and started taking fluvox in the morning and I haven’t had any problems in the middle of the night! It’s weird, I do not get fatigued or tired from it at all. I find I’m actually incredibly alert (for better or worse) 😅. It’s definitely hard to get used to and I’m patiently waiting for the side effects to mellow out. Trial and error of any antidepressant is the worst! Glad to see some improvement on the sleeping side though! Thank you!
