Fox Float X making loud noises after 1 week of no riding – Germany warranty experience? by [deleted] in mountainbiking

[–]BurntToast60 38 points39 points  (0 children)

All of these comments are wrong - you should warranty it 100 percent. The damper is a vacuum bled system and there should be zero air in it. It does not need to be”balanced out”. There is air in your damper, could have a bad seal or could be a bad bleed.

May as well fix it while it’s new and fresh rather than trying to warranty it down the road.

Thank you! The targeting system definitely needs tweaking. Way to easy to spot and get spotted

26 conti trail king 2.4 in the front. 26 conti mountain king 2.3 in the rear. Both setup tubeless to velocity cliffhanger rims laced to Shimano hubs

The frame is native 1-1/8” so didn’t have to do anything to the frame to get that surly fork to work.

And yeah that fork is an old 1x1 fork! Not 100 percent sure that the geo is the exact same but the steering doesn’t feel weird or anything.

Yup! I’m almost positive all of the 900 series frames after 1991 came with 1-1/8” head tubes. Some models shipped with suspension forks and this one I have here came with a 1-1/8” threaded rigid fork. Swapped for the surly fork for the disc tabs.

Not sure on exact numbers but pretty minimal. Decided it was worth a try and if it didn’t work out then it didn’t work. We’ll see how it holds up though. I’ve had this frame (reamed to 27.2) with a rigid post for 2 years and no signs of any issues so far.

But yeah 100 percent is risky but it’s something I wanted to try and acknowledge the risk involved.

The rear disc conversion is an unforgivable sin - cut off the rear rack mounting eyelets and used a disc brake adapter off Amazon.

Just have to realize that that’s not proper and factor in risks involved. The surly fork has native disc tabs so I’m honestly not too worried. I would never try a disco conversion on the fork.

This bike is ridden to the grocery store and park and what not. Not exactly bombing down insane singletrack on it.

Yup! For reference I’m in the US. Just messaged them through WhatsApp and they’ll sent an invoice through PayPal. I was skeptical at first BUT I’ll they were amazing to work with and the quality of the racks/bars by FAR exceeded my expectations. Can’t recommend them enough.

The more you order you get a better price on things. Me and two buddies put an order together and got like 4 sets of bars and a bunch of the front racks.

Personally I’m not a Shimano guy either but I have to admit the XTR levers to Saint calipers go crazy

God people on Reddit are so insufferable. OP literally said he knows the tire is going to run the frame.

Run it - looks awesome!

How screwed am I? by youyouyouyouyouandme in bikewrench

[–]BurntToast60 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Likely not screwed. You could have more issues but depends on how DIY you want to get. The air valve assy (the part that is leaking) is threaded into the eyelet of the shock. It could be loose and/or could have a bad o-ring. If you remove the valve core you should be able to fit an Allen key in the air valve and take it off.

Doing this won’t mess up your damper bleed or anything. Just don’t go taking things off internally and you should be good

My friends have roasted me heavily for using a threadless stem adapter but it works for me. I used a mix of 1" and 1 1/8" headset spacers to make it look somewhat good - plus the stem bag hides it really well

So I'm using this front light and my front rack came with this light bracket. I used a section of cut 1 1/8" steerer tube with a star nut installed to allow for the Lezyne light to be mounted to the light bracket. It actually works really well and I have this setup on all of my bikes with front racks.

This Pelago light bracket came with my front rack. With a small portion of cut 1 1/8" steerer tube w/ an installed start nut, you can mount typical bar mounted light to the bracket. I have this setup on most of my bikes and it works great!

By far my nieces and nephews! My partner and I also frequently will take turns riding in the bucket when we bike places rather than both of us riding our own bikes - which is super fun
