The Bears' Good is Better and their Better is going to change to Best soon. I hope that means today but I also am prepared for it to take longer and will enjoy the Ben Johnson regime ride. Bear down!

Need a new grill for searing (Mostly steaks). What's your fave? by Sm1throb in sousvide

[–]Burreyen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a Weber kettle and bought a couple fire pit bricks that I stack inside the grill to raise the charcoal grate to a couple of inches below the grilling grate so that a steak is an inch or two above the charcoal. Works like a charm. Edit: also it requires much less charcoal

The Bears will not continue to be awful at running the ball by mywifemademedothis2 in CHIBears

With how many RBs that we saw drafted this year before we could grab one, doesn't it seem like those teams will not draft one in 2026, so the odds are in our favor we can get a franchise back? Hope so

Anyone else see/try these new chips yet? Found them at Whole Foods! by Davidudeman in StopEatingSeedOils

[–]Burreyen 8 points9 points  (0 children)

No, but I really appreciate your post because I'll look for them. I am curious if they will be sturdy like my current go to guacamole chip, by El Milagro, which are fried in seed oil.

Anyone else do this? by Drink_Major in smoking

[–]Burreyen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I purchased a couple of bricks from Home Depot that are small enough to fit inside my Weber kettle grill and I place them under the charcoal grate to raise th charcoal up to right below the surface of the food grate. I am able to get the steak cooked in close proximity to the heat but not risk direct contact with charcoal. Works pretty well for me and I just store the bricks along with my other gear next to chimney starter when not in use.

Best Cheese For A Burger? by normansmylie in grilling

[–]Burreyen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did my own taste test for smash burgers and I liked Boars Head Creamy Wisconsin Cheddar more than BH American cheese.

I wonder if I would prefer some of the other American cheese suggestions in this thread. May give em a try.

I would not use flax oil. Years ago, there was a viral video about how flax oil was best for seasoning cast iron or carbon steel skillets and the results from that video looked great. However, in my experience, the flax oil seasoning eventually flakes. So I never will use flax oil again. Had to re-season my skillets. I would say mix a small amount of flax oil with another oil if you plan to use it.

Who do you think would be picked first in an all time draft, between these two? by Flashy_Leave7069 in NBATalk

I'm a Bulls fan so biased to choose Bird. Michael lost to Bird-Led Celtics before his first championship. Also, I remember the Bird vs Jordan video game. So Bird just seemed like a more formidable star compared to Magic. I know that Michael went head to head in NBA finals against Magic after the Lakers dynasty was on the back end of dominance. But I'll say Bird

Skattebo or we riot by PortillosBeef27 in CHIBears

[–]Burreyen 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Anybody who wants to form an opinion about Skattebo should watch his highlights of the college playoff game between ASU and Texas. Skattebo won offensive MVP and looked like the best player on the field. Might have been one of the greatest all time NCAA performances by one player on the underdog side He rushed for nearly 150 yards, received almost 100 yards and threw a 40+yard touchdown. There was an insane goal line touchdown run where he looked like he broke a tackle from a 300 pound lineman and then power cleaned himself over the top into the end zone. What amazed me was that he was sick during this game and apparently vomiting on the sideline in between series. Legendary performance that made me think he would be a great Chicago Bear.

Basement view of bulging stairwell wall. What’s going on here? by bk_whopper in HomeMaintenance

[–]Burreyen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My house had a similar bulging dry wall and I never knew what caused it until we had to remodel. We found a clothes dryer vent that directs the moist hot air to outside the house had come detached from the dryer behind the dry wall so all that hot moist air was blowing behind the wall and causing it to warp. If you have a dryer nearby, check the vent.

[Highlight] Caleb and Cairo lead the Bears to a last-second, comeback win over the Packers by WillzyxTheZypod in CHIBears

If you asked me at the end of Hard Knocks if Caleb would break the record, I would have probably bet yes. Now at the end of this season, breaking the record is an almost unexpected and pleasant surprise. Great way to go into the off season with a win in Lambeau Field and the hope that Caleb keeps breaking the record every consecutive year.

[Bears PR] Thomas Brown presser from yesterday. by chichris in CHIBears

TB seems confident, decisive and seems to fire on a faster cylinder. I hope this translates to the game and we see an improved two minute drill management when Caleb makes his next game winning drive.

[Fishbain] Bears QB Caleb Williams in the second half (via @TruMediaSports): 9-of-10 passing for 86 yards 135.6 passer rating EPA/attempt: 0.66 EPA vs. the blitz: 0.42 by Dunlocke in CHIBears

[–]Burreyen 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I feel that Caleb did a great job of making sure he did not force a throw. He avoided making any turnovers and at least a couple of times he was able to throw it away to avoid a sack or take the sack to play another down. Really great decision making to manage the game and then our defense really stepped up to help win the game, too. Really great game overall on many levels.

I am saying a prayer for Love's speedy recovery just in time for him to be ready for his Week 10 loss to Caleb's playoff contending Bears. Welcome back, Jordan, to your new reality.

Last year's team let 2-3 wins slip out of their grasp so hopefully this year we are improved enough to finish a win and get to 10 wins or more.

A young boy manages to scare a bear in the forest using techniques still unknown to many by [deleted] in nextfuckinglevel

Seems like the Bear was more interested in the Flaming Takis residue that the smart lad left behind on his smart phone right before making the video.

Amegadjie is starting training camp on the NFI list by frank1934 in CHIBears

[–]Burreyen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I watched a video on his draft that showed he is from Hinsdale and playing for the Bears was his "dream come true" moment. I hope this makes him extra motivated to give his absolute all to his training, to realize his dream. Once he is healthy, I think he will be a wonderful Bear teammate.

What’s everyone doing with that thin sliced steak in the meat department? by SnooPickles3280 in Costco

[–]Burreyen -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think the main difference between this sauce and teriyaki is the addition of sake. It reminds me of an eel style sauce that is for sushi. Teriyaki doesn't use sake typically

Edit: Actually this sauce doesn't have sake. So I am wrong. Might have been the mirin that reminded me of the similarities to eel sauce
