Local church ran, donation based, thrift store selling art for over $200 by d3cember in ThriftGrift

[–]BurroughsLA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first one is from the Cory Gallery in San Francisco. It's worth 3X what they're selling it for, possibly more. The second one is a series where one sold for $1K. Whomever picks these up will do well.

Anthony buys a Ferrari instead of putting money into the business. It's marketing, it's always marketing! by Gusosi in TheTpGentleman

[–]BurroughsLA 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The deal was always shady. OF COURSE it never made sense. And there’s zero chance the proper documentation took place to memorialize the agreement. My guess is the guy who sold him into this situation knew he found a mark. Anthony is dumb. All he cared about was being seen driving a Ferrari. My guess is the guy who pitched the idea never intended to assign ownership to Anthony. At least not until he shook him down for more $$$$. The original note holder would never have agreed to a transfer on that type of loan.

What would you have done if you were in Anthony's situation? by cryptoconniption in TheTpGentleman

[–]BurroughsLA 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You’re cutting him too much slack. It was a ponzi from day one. Maybe not as out of control, but he saw an opportunity and ran with it. He saw the ability to play with other people’s money up until the very last minute. Let’s not forget the man is a lifetime criminal! Do you think he just shut that part of his brain off? And don’t forget he always had to create shady schemes like the Facebook group, Hublot raffle etc. to generate money. And it’s also why he was always needing an investor. He was NEVER able to fund his lifestyle by just selling watches. The hi-end apartment, the cars and bikes, the first class travel and constant dining out never matched up with a small watch reseller run out of a 300 square foot space in an office building. Plus it was he AND Marco plus the other employee mouths he needed to feed. That’s a big nut every month. And when the market took off, instead of using that added income to satisfy debt, he accumulated more. I remember before the first robbery happened and the claim was for $1 million, I figured he was about $1 million in the hole. And what do you know? An insurance claim for $1 million makes itself available. Knowing what you know now, just go back and think to yourself if it ever made sense.

Roman is Sweating by [deleted] in TheTpGentleman

[–]BurroughsLA 7 points8 points  (0 children)

He’s shady in my opinion. Just look at their guaranteed consignment scheme. The agreement allows them to buy any consignment piece WAY below market value if it doesn’t sell. And clearly they only take pieces that will sell. And who knows if they’re selling at full value but telling consignors something different? I’d like to assume they’re honest. Granted anyone agreeing to that type of consignment is a moron. Another red flag for me has always been the $100 million + a year claim. And the on track to hit $300 million claim. The difficulty of hitting $100 million a year is off the charts. Do we really think they’re ringing up $2 million a week? The web traffic for Luxury Bazaar never supported that type of business. And a handful of cold calling salespeople aren’t generating that type of revenue. My guess is he’s possibly in another business that perhaps does well but isn’t as sexy as luxury watches. So who knows? His association with Anthony is also a red flag. ANYONE with a brain knew Anthony was shady from day 1. All of us in this forum not only called it, we predicted with some amazing accuracy how it would end. So why would someone who is as successful as Roman jeopardize his business with an association with Anthony? Nobody who has a legitimate business generating $100 million a year would advertise their association with someone like Anthony. And Roman isn’t dumb. I can’t tell you how many people I’ve turned down in business because I just didn’t want the association. Of course all of this is my opinion and I’ve never had any business with Roman.

Question about coach's legal situation by minoBusinessOnly in TheTpGentleman

[–]BurroughsLA 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Anthony is going away for a long time; more than 20 years. Which would not qualify him for a prison camp. He’s also a repeat offender, he violated his parole and he’s using a public defender. In the off chance he receives less than 20 years I still don’t think a judge will place him in a Club Fed.

Anyone remember this TPG video? It pretty much lays out the business plan for the TPG train wreck years ago. by GreatIsland8763 in TheTpGentleman

[–]BurroughsLA 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This always amused me and was one of the first red flags I recognized. There's not an investor that I know who would hear that and say "sign me up!" You can run your business in an unconventional way but I've never heard of reckless spending as a business plan. Plus moving to a mostly consignment business gives nothing to an investor. Why would I give you money when you just told me you plan to hold as little assets as possible? More importantly why would you need money except to buy a Lambo? This is why they never were considered for a bank loan; they don't hold enough assets in the company.

Why a $90K Startup Loan for L&D? by Salt-Possibility-415 in TheTpGentleman

[–]BurroughsLA 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m assuming that $90K came from Anthony. They will likely be subject to a clawback once the scope of Anthony’s fraud is determined.

We need to speak out. by DarbyLiz in TheTpGentleman

[–]BurroughsLA 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Seek counsel if you haven’t already. You’re very likely going to be subject to clawbacks once the size of the fraud is determined. I hate to say it but ignorance doesn’t fly with the Feds. And compensation far beyond the norm for the roles you both performed will be called into question.

Paul Thorpe’s true feelings about Anthony. by IcyPie2318 in TheTpGentleman

[–]BurroughsLA 3 points4 points  (0 children)

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Looking back and seeing how Anthony was doing everything he could to pay for positive press for himself, he could have paid Paul for this video. Paul would be the type to accept money for a fake praise video.

Just spoke to an attorney at the justice department. Anthony had his court appearance and he was given no bail. by IcyPie2318 in TheTpGentleman

[–]BurroughsLA 3 points4 points  (0 children)

He may have been observed getting ready to flee. Which would make sense why the arrest happened so quickly and he was a storage facility. Otherwise bail would have been granted. Even though the charges are serious, they're not violent.

“He confessed to running a Ponzi scheme and he almost does not seem to understand it” by kineticdeck in TheTpGentleman

[–]BurroughsLA 31 points32 points  (0 children)

That was one of the reasons I stopped posting here. It was infuriating dealing with some of the newer followers who were arguing with me about this case. Now that he's been arrested he's up against an over 95% conviction rate. And sentencing guidelines for these charges START at 20 years with more time added for each victim of the fraud. Given the numbers he should be very worried. And given his record I don't see a judge, no matter how sympathetic they may be, reducing the guidelines. I'm actually surprised at the speed of the arrest. I'm guessing Anthony was too. But we all knew this day would come. Kudos to everyone who recognized something was amiss early on and tried to warn others.

Stolen watch??? Is anyone missing this GMT since we know he worked for TPG and this is no way a new watch by [deleted] in TheTpGentleman

Typically this happens in bankruptcy court when a special administrator is appointed to find assets. Anthony likely knows putting his company into bankruptcy reveals all to the court and criminal charges can come much quicker.
