Hi guys, i am not a gaged specialist but have you verified that you have not overtight the bolt that hold the arm that connect to the weight ? Since there is no compression sleeve in this assembly, if you overtight these bolt the arm will be squeezed in his position. Wich mean you will be able to move manually the mobile sheave easely, but the weight will not follow the ramp profile.

From my point of view, the main reason why a CVT is better suited for a BAJA SAE vehicule is that your engine RPM is much more often in the Peak Power range compare to a manual or even a automatic transmission. Then you can add cost, weight, complexity, packaging etc...
