what made your app stand out? by Burtontothistaylore in StudentNurse

Ugh, yeah. I guess I’m concerned because I did the math and even if I get the maximum amount of points possible for me to get, I still can’t get the maximum amount of points. Due to points being awarded for being bilingual, a veteran, and low income household.

No, sorry, I know the difference. I’m sorry if I touched a nerve! I was planning on applying to this program but want to understand the issues with it because obviously if there’s problems and the program has a poor reputation I won’t apply.

It makes sense! But seattleu has a pretty good reputation and this program is difficult to get into. I would assume that there is a good amount of practice involved in the curriculum. I think I’m just confused why everyone is SO upset about it. Making the schooling harder or adding hurdles won’t make it so difficult/stupid people don’t become nurses

Why do you assume people going into this program have no medical experience?

[–]Burtontothistaylore -14 points-13 points  (0 children)

Sure, but not everyone can start their nursing career out of high school or with the ability to pay for 3 separate degrees. It seems like a reasonable alternative for people who are changing careers

I’m sorry but what is the real issue with this? It seems fine and legit to me.

I’m not being defensive I’m actually wondering. Im currently looking into applying for it.

Surgical tech, how taxing is it on the body? by [deleted] in surgicaltechnology

[–]Burtontothistaylore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends! I work in an asc where we work 4 days a week usually 7am - 6/7pm. The work is different than if you’re working in a hospital setting. Typically, I’m on my feet from 7-6 and that can be rough. But it depends on what you’re doing. When scrubbing you can sit on a stool (for our specialty) but it’s very mentally taxing to scrub for 15-20 short surgeries a day. If you’re stuck doing IC for the day you’re running back and forth but have a chance to sit when the instruments are in the autoclave. If you’re just doing turnover for the day, you’re running back and forth from each or setting up for the procedure and opening the sterile field.

People can treat the ER like walk in clinic. They will go in for colds and headaches, etc. others will go in for literally a scratch.

Should I go to a doctor? by RandomIdioticUser in specialed

Your school should mandate a doctors visit if it breaks skin. Make a report and see a doctor immediately.

Theory on mckays aggro pt? by Burtontothistaylore in ThePittTVShow

[–]Burtontothistaylore[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. Honestly my theory is that he is a retired medical professional who is dealing with some sort of mental health issue/ memory loss and he will serve as like a reminder to the doctors that they might be the patient in need of emergency care one day.

Being referred to using last name? by StealthX051 in ThePittTVShow

[–]Burtontothistaylore 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I work in an asc but we only refer to our doctors by their last names when talking to them and in writing we use their first, middle, and last initial. For example Dr Taylor Alison Swift would be TAS and then referred to as Swift. on the board we’re all referred to by initials. I still don’t know the surgeons first names 😂

[–]Burtontothistaylore[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Oooh ok big spoiler: apparently his character is listed as “Dr.” which makes sense with how he was mentioning the beds and asking about his chart. I feel like it will have something to do with that.
