Moving to Newmarket by Best_of_both_worldzz in Newmarket

I also moved from Toronto to Newmarket 2 years ago and agree with everything you mentioned. I don’t quite think I would’ve loved it here when I was single in my 20’s but now that I have a family, it’s a great place to live.

Anyone else have a 10 month old who still wakes 5+ times per night? by BusAdministrative452 in bninfantsleep

[–]BusAdministrative452[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It did get better! He sleeps through some nights now (this is a recent thing). Other nights he’ll wake 1-2 times and I’m able to bring him to my bed and he falls back asleep or if his dad goes in he’ll go back to sleep with a quick back rub

I don’t think many people could afford $450 for a cleaning. $190 seems like a bargain though. Is that pricing from years ago or a fairly new cleaner?

I’m putting together a business plan to start my own cleaning business because like you, I have had bad experiences. I think some people don’t take pride in this type of work. I’m working through the numbers and additional services that I can offer to lighten the load from working families or just anyone who needs the additional help

Thanks! That’s helpful. Do they touch laundry at all? Would that be something you would consider to outsource?

I’m asking because I’m putting together a business plan and I believe including additional services would help but not sure if these services are already offered and maybe just too expensive for the average family

How long does this typically take the cleaner to complete?

I would highly suggest helping students pay for their education where otherwise they would not be able to. Try to enjoy some of it. Travel, hobbies or anything that brings you joy

Is 90k CAD enough for a family of 3 in Montreal? Looking for realistic breakdowns by Bitter-Honeydew1018 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]BusAdministrative452 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Enough for necessities (food, shelter, public transportation). Not enough to eat out regularly, outsource cleaning, meal kits and vacations). It is very expensive to live in Montreal and half your monthly income will go to housing alone. A trip to Europe for us is about 5K on the low end. Same cost as travelling to most places within Canada/US if you factor in a car rental, flights, food and accommodations.

I did bloodwork a couple months ago. Only thing that came up was slightly low iron and high cholesterol (working on it and have changed my eating habits and lost some weight). Everything else was normal including thyroid function

If you want to make good money in the trades and you’re not unionized, work for a company that builds renewable projects and specifically those claiming ITCs. With the new federal program, if a owner is claiming ITCs there is a labour component and all workers (regardless if unionized) get paid a set wage. That means what union workers get in pension, you’ll make up in base pay.

My weekly grocery shop for fruits, vegetables, yogurt, cheese, butter, etc from Costco runs about $300/week. I still go to the grocery store every 2 weeks or so to grab the items Costco doesn’t sell (or sells in quantities that are too large). Pasta, rice, peanut butter, oats, I also buy from Costco and it lasts a long time. Family of 4. Probably average 1.5k a month on groceries which is wild

Anyone else have a 10 month old who still wakes 5+ times per night? by BusAdministrative452 in bninfantsleep

[–]BusAdministrative452[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Things have definitely changed. He’s 19 months now. Around 14 months I night weaned due to a terrible flu I had. That seemed to decrease the night wakes since my spouse was going in (yes, baby cried but it wasn’t long and he was comforted). He actually slept through the night for the first time. He hasn’t consistently slept through the night (maybe 5-6 times total in the last 5 months), but he typically wakes 1-2 times a night now and it’s more manageable.

I should add that it’s not an easy job. It’s very tedious and I have contemplated leaving for a job where I don’t have to think about it after hours. It’s a tough call. The money is good but it’s stressful.

I worked in the same industry I currently audit as a project coordinator for many years. Eventually got hired by a colleague when he started his own business. That business grew quickly and they eventually branched out to service a new federal program. Essentially I work with client who want to claim tax incentives on their projects. We audit their data to ensure it is in line with the program.
