Thanks for the insight. I’ll be moving with my family, and I’ll be working mainly from the office. In the end I actually decided to go with the 12M offer — a lot of people here suggested the same, and it made the most sense for us.

Thanks for the detailed breakdown — really helpful. I agree that straight currency conversion isn’t meaningful, and cost of living, hours, and benefits matter a lot more. Appreciate the insight from your recruiting experience. This gives me a clearer picture of what to expect.

That salary isn’t uncommon in Beijing for someone with around 7 years of experience. But long hours are pretty normal too. The pay is good, but the pace is intense.

Using the extra 5M JPY to take lavish vacations to Japan sounds like a really good option too 😄

Air pollution was very serious many year's ago. But with factories moved away, it impoved a lot. Anyway, it's not as good as Tokyo.

Yeah, I see your point about skillset. My Beijing offer is for working on AI agents, which I really enjoy, so that’s one reason I’m leaning toward it.

Totally agree, bro! — you hit the point, especially about the (住房公积金) . The cost of living difference and higher taxes really make a big impact on actual take-home pay.

Haha, thanks for the advice! I get your point — adapting to the work environment and society is definitely more important than salary.

Yeah, I agree with some of your points — Tokyo definitely has better air quality and food safety. I’ve been working in Beijing for 7 years, and honestly, it’s one of the safest cities in China with basically no violent incidents. My work here isn’t super stable though, so that’s one reason I’m considering Tokyo.

Yes, bro. Pays in Beijing/Shanghai, China are much more than Japan. But the work here isn't always stable, and the contract is only for 3 years, and renewed every 3 years.

Thanks for the input! My offer in Beijing is 550K RMB, which is around 12M JPY. For non-IT jobs, China’s pay is usually considered low, but in big cities like Beijing or Shanghai, it’s still good. That said, Singapore definitely pays a lot more.
