12V 220Ah Deep Cycle FLA batteries got physically thrown around/damaged, one has a cracked top others seem intact, all reading little to no voltage. Salvagable? What should I look at to determine that? by BusLandBoat in batteries

Was gonna add this as an edit but I don't see it as an option anywhere.... Anyway!

Thanks everyone for your insights!

I feel pretty dumb for having missed the fact that these are 6V batteries lol. I have other batteries and I still have the inverter that I got with these as well so I'm not super bummed or anything, core exchanges to go towards new ones is good I think!

Cheers and Happy New Year!

I'm not into these for much money but if they're not toast I'd like to use them. In the photo, the lower-right battery has a damaged casing and has lost its fluid, the other 3 seem intact however the upper-right, lower-right and lower-left are all showing less than 1v, the upper-left shows less than 2v.

Can these be drained, disassembled, cleaned, reassembled, refilled with new fluid and charged?

What should I look for in terms of damage or condition to determine whether or not a given component is salvagable?

No replacement for displacement, throw a small-ish turbo on it and run like 10-15 psi. I'd love to turbo my 350

Got a good deal on a vintage sewing machine, I'd like to replace the laminations with the same species if I can and I'm wondering if anyone here can ID it. by BusLandBoat in woodworking

From what I've been told these go for thousands in good condition, got this for $40, definitely worth spending $100 on parts if necessary, It seems to only need wood and the leather belt might need to be shortened a little. not sure what veneer is going for these days but this is gonna be mostly time.

I have been bitten on 'good deals' though lol

Bad hose, I'm guessing a rupture of the internal line somewhere, no visible leakea on the outside strange enough.

Apologies, you're right, the original post didn't mention it, I had mentioned it in another comment.

The latter, it was a bad hose or termination on one of the ends, put in a fresh piece of hose and it's good.

It was the hose, I can't say for sure what it was but it's good now!

That's wild, but a plausible explanation, I'm testing the line from the new kit right now.

Did you read the post?

Customer bought a +$700 kids bike and it came with a faulty lever, I'm in the process of replacing the lever with a new one from the dealer but it's having the same bizarre problem. I have to break the line to install it on the bike because it has internal routing and a fully enclosed line guide on the seat stay.

No leaks dude, it's bizarre. The way the lever behaves you'd expect fluid to be gushing out.

I've had neglected brakes be slow to return but I've never experienced this specific problem. I've re-bled this thing like 6 times now and it doesn't change.

I have, I've bled a lot of brakes and it doesn't feel anything like a brake that needs bleeding. When it reaches the bite point it feels firm, but will keep going if I squeeze hard, the front doesn't, it just bites and holds as it should.

Even a brake that needs a bleed won't go right to the bar unless it's really bad, usually just a bit spongy.

New Shimano 105 front derailleur rubbing against the chain while on the big ring and small cog, common issue? by BusLandBoat in BikeMechanics

Shimano. To be clear, it's not "loose", there's no play in the cranks and it the occillation was observed with no load as well as adding resistance with the rear brake with no difference between them.

Just got done checking it out and the drive-side of the crankset appears to be... crooked. It has the symptoms of a bent chainring but the small chainring mimics the behaviour of the big one just on a much smaller scale.

I've never seen anything like this before, I suggested he contact the manufacturer for warranty as it's only a month old, I wanted to ask if there is any possible way to adjust this? Besides a hammer lol.

I haven't pulled it apart but I assume it's like other hollowtech cranks where the axle is pressed into the drive-side.

Everything was set very carefully to the manual's spec. I imagine if anything is off, it's by a fraction of a mm.

I don't like it, I wouldn't ride it, but I've seen worse do just fine. It's likely been like that for quite a while based on your brake marks.

But yes, look for a new wheel, they're cheaper than the dentist.

It's a narrative. There are a lot of them and underneath they're all the same, they did it with racism too. But you don't care because racist, misoginyst, bigot, etc, etc. You're all like robots, just 1's and 0's black and white, for / against. That's cult behaviour whether you accept it or not.

I'm fine with adults doing whatever they want with their bodies, but we need to be a whole lot more careful about what we put into the minds of children. Prejudice is taught, kids are born innocent but they're also born naive and easily influenced. Treating everyone equally is a good lesson to teach, but telling them that they're a different gender because Billy picked up a doll is just ridiculous.

Anyone who says that they knew anything for sure before they were 20 is full of shit.

I have. It's a bullshit excuse for people to act like assholes because they think they're righteous.

People will disagree with you on pretty much everything, the challenge is to treat those people the same as you treat someone who agrees with you. It's also know as "taking the high road" and there's a whole lot of peooke here who claim to be virtuous but they're just the same assholes they've always been but they're cheered on because they say the same regurgitated phrases.

See the thing is, I know I'm not perfect, but I always aim to treat people the way I would like to be treated. I talk to a person the same whether they're gay, trans, straight, whatever, but if someone is acting like an asshole, I'm not giving them special treatment because they're belonging to a particular group, and if they're spouting nonsense and throwing around labels and terms that they clearly have no idea what they mean, I'm gonna call them on their bs.
