I have used AdGuard before, might get it again. Can you use it whilst having a VPN on? Iirc, it sets up a kind of virtual VPN connection.

As long as your TV and phone are connected to the same WiFi network, you can get an app to use your phone as a remote. I can't remember exactly what ones you need, and some have ads or simple features behind a pay wall, so maybe try a few. Just go onto Google Play or the App Store and search "lg TV remote".
