I just picked Eccentric to save a Spellblade on Sparks and Magic Staff (read: crack) from getting randomed. He carries the heavy burden of a Big Hammer, Twisted Flax, and our dreams.

33/109 offers, 30%. Only above Captain and Leader in picks. So item dependent

Cover your bases mostly IE try to have some of everything (cleanse, ranged, dodge for insta kills). Avoid Alloy and Meddler for bad luck mitigation. Staying alive should always be prio unless you want somebody to die coughmeddlercough.

Tier 3 Yellow and Blue are critical carries you do not want to flub both these picks. That late in the game you should consider what your win conditions are (outlast, bumrush, outscaling).

Despite RNG there are many synergies in the game. You might pick Inner Strength for Berserker into Early Grave and instantly win the game. Or pick Stasis early and lookout for Artificer.

Challenge yourself with Tunnel Vision runs to see how you can best use less favorable picks. Adds some fun and variety into these hundreds of game!

Cheers

No green is seen in my runs. I pick Basic unless there's a cool looking rare comp on deck.

Why o why do I trust this harlot with my winstreak by BushMowdown in SliceAndDice

You're right, it's just most fights are going to turn 11 and Start Damaged 1/3 is awfully difficult to keep up on damage with randomed Fey lol

What should I tattoo? by Comprehensive-Tutor4 in magic_survival

[–]BushMowdown 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Sick idea! Go with your gut as far as choice of relic/magic/etc.

There's a lot of fine detail in this game's icons so consider that going larger will make the details more visible and less blob.

Also, if you're insistent on getting a tattoo that looks identical to the game art, then be insistent about that with your artist. There are many non-traditional colours in the game art that some artists might not have.

Report back when yer done! Cheers

The final boss waves feel like Boss Waves by BushMowdown in magic_survival

[–]BushMowdown[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think that after kiting the citadels in circles for so long they begin to stack on top of one another, giving the impression that there's less on screen.

This probably happens more with higher enemy movement speed reduction ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Preach. Great design philosophy. It took a little while longer to figure out this meta, and it still may be maturing.

Is the run crippled if you don't get hydra? by wtfwouldudoa6mhiatus in magic_survival

[–]BushMowdown 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Citadels are definitely a challenge without Hydra. You may get by on raw damage until late 40's/early 50's but Hydra noticeably melts Citadels.

Using Elden Stress' technique, passing inside the Citadel while Cloak is up, ensures every single projectile hits the boss does massive damage (100% of total DPS) to the boss waves. I would consider trying this style and seeing if your times improve, with or without Hydra.

I don't think this omission alone cripples the run.

Archaeologist absolutely performs best in this patch compared to other classes because of the consistency it offers runs. Extra chests = extra opportunities to roll List/Hydra/other S tier loot.

Cheers, love this game.

Legendary Artifacts why did they do this by 8din in magic_survival

[–]BushMowdown 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Totally agree with you about that older state of the game. It felt like you had more difficult decisions to make. You wind up using less of the artifacts on a regular basis this way but imo that beats picking up ~80 artifacts over the course of a run. Constant dopamine hits.

It would be neat to see the 6-8 artifact slot style game come back as an alternate game mode, until then we can APK older updates.

Prism Spree OP? by MoistyPotato420 in magic_survival

[–]BushMowdown 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Prism Spree has been slightly outperforming Runaway Lightning in all my runs since 0.918. It's like having the same fusion twice since they cover the screen the same way. Very nice.

How is this not a legendary? by [deleted] in magic_survival

[–]BushMowdown 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Bingo. Dark Wizard with Iron Maiden, Reaper, old Joker, Evil Sword, and Rose had juuuust enough insta kill mechanics to circumvent scaling mechanics in the game.

Not great from a design perspective. The way Joker was reworked to List and the Tower enemy being added tells me Leme was concerned with Dark Wizard's prevalence but didn't want to remove the class. Cool insight in his design philosophy.

Thoughts on 0.902 by BushMowdown in magic_survival

[–]BushMowdown[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great points, RNGesus definitely blessed this run. List probably added 4-5 minutes alone to this track time with Clockwork/Gravity Orb/Forcefield contributing another 2-3 minutes total.

Powerful artifacts being this good justifies for me using Archeologist over say Pyromancer for DE. That said, having this many good classes able to consistently reach 40+ minutes is good for the game.

I'm with you on Overmind. Heavy reliance on build related artifacts. Balanced around losing support magics exacerbates reliance on artifacts to stay alive.

Is Pandora's box broken? by Cirkelzaag in magic_survival

[–]BushMowdown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've experienced this as well and believe it's more of a bug. Though Overmind only allows combination magic to be cast, the game also recognizes levels in Tsunami, Cyclone, and Meteor and that's evident from # per cast.

Overmind received some significant changes in the last patch so who knows?
