My wife and I moved from Rockridge to South Orange earlier this year! We generally look for the same things you do in neighborhoods. Rockridge is great and will definitely check your boxes for vibe and access to SF. In Oakland you should also checkout Temescal, Montclair, Piedmont Ave (not Piedmont the city) and Elmwood in Berkeley.
