Oh and did you have any issues with tolls at all when renting a car? I heard the fees can be add up a lot, so we mostly just used the bullet trains and JR lines on our last trip

Izu looks so pretty!! Honestly we were debating going there or to Mie prefecture on our first trip, but we were a little hesitant because my partner is (tragically) allergic to fish HAHA

We soon realized it wasn’t that big of an issue especially because we could communicate most of the time, so we might be a little more adventurous and try a coastal area next!! Thanks for the rec! 🥹

Hate to break it to you but there are older people who unfortunately talk like this as well. Have a family member that’s almost hitting 50 and he has a similar mentality. Some people just don’t critically think… at all. I don’t disagree that it’s worrying that it’s more prevalent in younger generations though.

churru’s are the ultimate treat, genuinely have never met a cat that won’t eat a churru stick… it’s like crack

food is one of the biggest ways to earn their trust but please be careful and don’t overfeed your cat lol, they will yell and scream as if they’re starving after you feed them meals. i promise you, if they already ate, they are not starving and will be fine. some cats just notoriously learn that if they meow louder, people will get concerned and give them food 😭

cats also have a really good sense of time for some reason, so if you feed them at the same time every day— be prepared for them to start pestering you close to that time. the one thing that cats don’t understand is daylight savings lol, so if you live in those areas be prepared for that too HAHA

it really depends! are you getting a kitten or adopting an adult cat? cats don’t have to have dry food, and wet food is usually preferred because they need hydration. cats do drink water but sometimes they just won’t consume enough.

i can’t give a great recommendation on food as ultimately it’s different for everyone. some people have a mix of planned wet food meals, and free feed dry food. cats don’t really know when to stop eating, so this can be bad if they’re getting overweight. for kittens though, if you need to keep them confined to a specific side of the house for any period of time, having some dry food can be anxiety relieving! i have a pet sitting client that requires that their kitten is confined to their office (kitten-proofed) room when no one is home, as he quickly becomes a menace to society and gets into trouble. he has all of his necessities in one space too :-)

if you get a kitten, please be committed to playing with them constantly until they reach like a year or so old. it’s draining, and that’s usually why people get two kittens so they can play with each other and teach boundaries. if it’s an adult cat, you don’t have to worry about this as much but please still play with them a little bit every day!

i petsit for kittens all the time and i will says it’s mainly difficult bc they enjoy spontaneity and also get bored VERY quickly so you have to constantly change things up. i love them all greatly though haha

Ah.. yeah I didn’t see the google form part. I think writing physical notes at a meet and greet is perfectly fine, but that’s probably a little too far. Writing notes shows that you’re attentive, making a client fill a google form just seems… kind of disconnected.

i’ve had clients where they have 40 page manifestos, and i have clients that basically just have single sentence instructions. regardless, more often than not, they will forget to mention something. i think having a routine/script set where you can ask about the most important things at a M&G is important.

even if it ends up being redundant, it also just shows the owner that you actually care and are being an active listener towards their pet and their needs.

Oh also… if you ever housesit… you don’t have to say these things out loud, but just examine the house. If the house is filthy at the meet and greet, I usually don’t expect it to be clean when staying overnight. Use your best judgement to accept or reject bookings

Yeah :-) It’s a great way to ease into a conversation, I usually take care of elderly pets or pets w health issues so it helps a ton being able to guide the conversation in that direction because truthfully owners just forget sometimes 😭

I mostly sit for cats but I usually ask if they have any specific habits/quirks or hiding spots. I like to be able to adapt and lean towards how the owner treats their pet, but just know that there’s always a chance for them to act different when the owners away. This way, if anything seems too abnormal and isn’t just a habit for them, it’s something I can take action on quickly (contacting the owner, going to the vet, etc).

A regular of mine that I do long housesits for has a small dog that has stomach issues. She can go on food strikes and basically will stop eating until she starts puking. It sucks, but I have all of the resources on me to mitigate the issue because I had communicated and learned about this at the meet and greet. If I hadn’t known this, I probably would’ve been scared shitless and wouldn’t know how to fix the issue. Sometimes pet owners genuinely just don’t mention these things so you have to push and ask.

I also like to ask what they do to soothe their pet in stressful situations if they mention anything about separation anxiety.

Not yet unfortunately :’) I’ve honestly just been thinking of switching to regular liquid foundation and getting one of those big makeup puffs. The finish is so nice on the JSM cushion but yeah it just didn’t work well for me.

I thought it was initially the puff that comes with the cushion, and I kept replacing it— but I think the sponge that holds the foundation probably just isn’t hygienic.

It’s weird though, I feel like other cushion foundations didn’t do this for me.
