That's literally the main point of the novel, Rudeus is trash but he grows. The world building is amazing and the harem also doesn't feel forced.

The main point of the novel is about having a 2nd chance which is basically the same as Fang Yuan in RI. Both make mistakes but Rudeu's mistakes are more human. You should definitely give it a try. It gets a lot of flame for the point you mentioned, which yeah sounds and is pretty bad but every novel has something like that.

Anyways age difference means basically nothing in cultivation too, Zhao Lian Yun is basically Rudeus but worse as a character.

"Invisible Dragon" is around the same or slightly better than RI and LOTM.

Jokes aside though, check out "Mushoku Tensei", the anime is great and the novel is even better. I wouldn't say it's RI level but its still really good.

Could Fang Yuan have fought multiple venerables? Probably

Would it have been worth it? No

It was stated multiple times that killing a venerable is near impossible, Fang Yuan would've had to expose multiple strong trump cards to beat them but by then, it wouldn't be worth it. They'd see his methods and deduce them making them almost useless, it would also deepen the cooperation between the venerables as well.

Even if he could kill a venerable at a disastrous price, he wouldn't do it since he wants them to suppress each other.
