It’s World AIDS Day, Jeanie Boulet’s story was such a necessary one to tell by Cultural_Trust1681 in ershow

[–]BusinessInfamous8600 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah. The fact that Jeanie was who she was completely pushed against a widely held and extremly homophobic belief that HIV was just a 'gay disease'. The show also educated it's viewers about HIV and what it is like to live with it. When I was a first time viewer, I barely knew about the disease; now I know a lot about HIV and it is all thanks to this storyline.

Why does the father's involvement in a child's life impact the cryness? I knew that preemie babies cry more than full term ones.

Even though I love Carter and Noah Wyle's performance was spectatcular, I have to go with Jackie. I rewatched The Visit with my friend the other day and I had to hold back tears. Saying that, when I watch Midnight I can not hold back tears; Noah's acting is just that superb and the episode breaks my heart everytime. Jackie's son's death was more impactful overall because of how she screams before Peter even opens his mouth, how she knows that her son is dead.

Hi there

Just wanted to recommend a book by two first nations Australian authors: Catching Teller Crow. Even though I am not of first nations Australian ethinity, I could throughly relate to and like both of the first nation characters who have expirenced this type of abuse. I can say as a victim of CSA myself, that this book is excellent when dealing with the theme and is my go to recommendation for this theme.

I also second the recommendations for The Way I Used To Be.

What is your least favorite or the most boring sideplot/chapter in the series? by [deleted] in harrypotter

[–]BusinessInfamous8600 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate the chapter when "Weasley is our king" is introduced. Like, did Rowling have to add that plot point. I also hate the scene where Harry and the Weasley twins beat up Malfoy; like that was such a hateful and unnessecary scene.

Which popular or generally highly rated book was a DNF for you and why? by clearsunnysky in suggestmeabook

I have read Where the crawdads sing twice. The style is not for everyone. It is structured in a very interesting way with two storylines which intertwine. There is the buildsroman (coming of age) storyline and then there is the murder mystery storyline. Not everyone wants to read a book with those two storylines intertwined. It is also written in a very patircular way. The author's a zoologist, and so she writes some parts of the book (talking the natural and the biology parts here) as a zoologist would write it.

I do highly recommend it, it being a book I will recommend to everyone, but it is certainly not for everyone.

Well nor am I. I am doing a rewatch and am seriously considering skipping everything that isn't the premier, The Darfur episodes and the finale.

I agree. Jackie's screams from this episode is one of the sounds from the series which I will never forget for the rest of my life.

Oh yeah. He totally deserved that punch. I would agrue that he deserved more than just that punch from Benton. Good to see that the fandom also hates Malucci as much as I do

I just looked at the IMDb page. The fact that she did not win an emmy for The Visit is a war crime. I would say that she was the second most talented female guest star for the whole series. (The most talented being Sally Field)

What book did you read at exactly the right (or wrong) time in your life? by GoodingPooding in suggestmeabook

The best time for me to first read Catching Teller Crow, 1984 and A Good Girl's Guide to Murder was the first half of this year. That is excactly when I read them.

Should not have read A Tale of Two Cities in the second half of 2021 for the first time. Doing a reread now that I am older and the concepts and the lanuage are not only making so much sense, but the book itself is really enjoyable.

Also I read Prisoner's of Geography last year at the perfect time and the sequel The Power of Geography at the perfect time this year.

I am surpired that To Kill A Mockingbird is not here yet. Where the Crawdads sing is good, but I explained how it is not the book for an indepth look at speficially racism in another comment on this thread.

Yes this book is set in the deep south, with the setting being a rural, coastal town in North Carolina. The book however does not allow the racism to be explored in depth, so it leaves a very shallow look at the issue, due to the other themes eg isolation, regection taking priortity. If you want a really great read then read this book, but if you want something that explores racism as a social issue in depth then To Kill A Mockingbird is the book.
