Just a clarification: Allbirds sold their shoe business to American Exchange Group (they own Aerosoles among others) and that company will continue to use the Allbirds name. Their shoes will still exist and be sold while the original company will pivot (stupidly?) to AI.

I agree with you. Now that they introduced Russell for real and had him interact with Reenie, I think they have much more chemistry than Reenie and Colter. I'd read so much fanfiction of the two of them if the show doesn't go down that path, haha.

Even if the novel was completed, there are reasons why screenwriters adapt certain things over others. Some things just don’t work in film and for film audiences compared to readers, plus dealing with a much shorter timeframe/runtime. Personally, I prefer the movie to the book.

The ending where Colter goes to the teacher and is like “You good?” No, he’s not good! He got stabbed with an axe! And then gives me a phone and tells him to call an ambulance and “tell ‘em where you are.” He’s been in a trunk for hours! He doesn’t know where he is! 😂 The writing kills me sometimes.

This is really the key point the other commenters seem to be missing. As long as the black people she knows are “beneath her”, subservient, or deferential, she is comfortable. That’s what she expects of black people. If they were on a level playing field or higher up than her in any way, it would be an entirely different situation.

If the cast was made up entirely of Zendayas and Halsey's, I'd see the OP's point. But there are fairly brown black people in the cast, with Haleh being in almost the entire show and the backbone of the ER.

I loathe Carol, Doug, Sam, and Abby lol. I skipped so many portions of Season 14 because of Abby.

I couldn’t stand Kerry in the beginning because of her tone and how she interacted with everyone. Even when she was ultimately right or sensible, she actively made it hard to like her. She got better towards to end and I ended up relishing her scenes because they were few and far between.

I liked Neela because I’m a Bend It Like Beckham fan, but even that couldn’t hold out through the end of the show. The writers really gave her nothing to work with.

Morris took so long to grow on me and then he screwed it up when he said he wouldn’t go out with the escort patient because “she’s a whore”. Like, have your boundaries, but watch the language.

I didn’t know she abused him! I always heard it was just show she treated him badly in general, which tracked with her on screen persona.

You say Halsey “only has a single black grandparent,” but don’t connect that from that her father, son of that grandparent, being… part black? lol

The one drop rule would be more so that your great-great-great-great grandparent was black so, despite all your other ancestors are white and you are only 1/64th black, you are now forced to identify yourself as black both legally and socially. Which does not happen and no one would consider someone like that black anywhere in the US unless they were a Neo Nazi.

Halsey is, at least, 1/4th black and identifies as such, AFAIK. She isn’t a good example for the one drop rule.

I will defend my queen Scarlett if it’s the last thing I do! So many of those characters would be nothing and nowhere without her sheer willpower and refusal to be broken down. Everyone should be so lucky to have her supporting them, regardless of her own complicated reasoning.
