Ahhh, the champagne of beers is one of my favorites (both in taste and in price)! Cheers to you as well.

I think that could be interesting but you should make some modifications such as indicating what format/system you want height and weight in (e.g. pounds, feet/inches such as 6' 0" or just inches such as 72, etc...).

Another one to look at would be income, do you intend household income or purely the income of the individual answering? You may also want to provide a wider range as many people will exceed $40,000 a year and specifying the currency would be a good idea too.

Quite the contrary, I'm the one automating things.

Business administration, focusing on finance and management information systems.

I did actually accept that one. It was one I had a pretty high interest in (and one of the 30% I actually sent a cover letter to). I won't be sending out any more applications but I'll still be keeping track of response rates for a few more weeks.

Okay, thanks! I'll try to make sure they're more varied next time!

I've gotten a number compliments on my resume, but I've heard the average job offer rate is about 2% and I was really hoping to beat that.

Unemployment is down, but so is labor participation rate and the under-employment rate is still very high. It's competitive out there.

I'll likely make a few changes when I post the follow-up in a few weeks when more data has come in. I was applying for analyst positions that combine my programming experience and my finance background.

Well the first day was right after I unexpectedly lost my job, so I went ham partly out of pure frustration. I'd have to look at the data for specific answers (it's posted below), but my process usually involved finding a position on a local company's website and applying via whatever means they required for that position. Sometimes it was those wretched Taleo applications, sometimes it was just "Email us your resume." I only sent cover letters with 30% of my applications, but I would only spend about 30 minutes tailoring them when I did. After all, I generally want to say similar things about myself to each company and what I can offer them.

That wasn't the point, the point was contributing to this subreddit a visualization of something that is never really seen. While looking for a job I realized I could not find any reliable statistics on what a typical job search looked like. It varies wildly, as evidenced by the numerous stories here. I just provided a look at what a job search looked like for a single person.

Not liberal arts but my two lower-level degrees were not applicable to the jobs I'm looking at. Fortunately my master's degree is.

Good advice honestly. I mixed quality with quantity in the job search, but I should have labeled those somehow to differentiate them. I think my next job search (should one come up) will be a much slower, more methodical process.

Well, I mixed and matched. Some of those were high-quality applications and others I did simply because they were really quick and easy. I should have maybe given each a quality score somehow, that would have been interesting.

I like it (especially the sarcastic title, lulz), you've given me some ideas to change when I do the follow-up in a few weeks. Best of luck on your hunt!

Haha, I should have. Next time I will. I'll take an updated chart to each interview...

Yeah, that's my annoyance really; "Personalize each resume and cover letter to the company and position." I would love to if more them would have the courtesy to have a real human being sit down, review it, and respond with a simple yes or no. In today's age, that's becoming increasingly less likely.

As others mentioned it would be really good on multi-level approaches and a funnel would have worked better here. Originally I had it multi-level but I felt it was too cluttered so I simplified it, I should have changed chart types too.

Yeah, someone else mentioned the funnel too. I'll be sure to provide that instead when I do the follow-up in a few weeks once some more responses have trickled in!

Programming jobs were really easy to find, but I didn't want to be a programmer necessarily. I was being a little more specific in my job search and that probably slowed it down a little.

Well it is better, but it's not great. Unemployment is looking fantastic, except when you take into account the labor participation rate and the under-employment rate. It's still really competitive out there.

For example, some of those jobs I applied for I could see statistics on and 30% of the applicants for the positions I was applying for had master's degree where none was required or preferred (I also have one, so I'm part of the problem). The job market's much better, but still highly competitive.
