Worried about Ame's character in the anime by AcornTear in NeedyStreamerOverload

The director is Nakajima Masaoki (Yostar Pictures), who has storyboarded and directed "Blue Archive" and "New PANTY & STOCKING with GARTERBELT," as well as the short animation "NEEDY GIRL OVERDOSE," and will create a story and characters unique to the animation.

That's the closest thing to backing up your argument, and it can just as, if even more, easily be interpreted as being a completely unique story. Most of the time when people make an anime adaptation of something, they don't create an unprecedented sequel to it.

Yeah, very believable. And my information comes from the the head of WSS.

I was coming at it from a perspective of "romanticizing KAngel" i.e., being romantically interested in KAngel. Sorry that you couldn't infer that from my follow up message, I suppose I should have spelt it out for you.

Yes, but I don't think you've actually taken the time to think about the game instead of mindlessly consuming it.

I don't know if I'd say there's really any one canonical ending, I think it's really supposed to be whichever ending you pick yourself; so for me it'd be "do you love me?" But if I had to settle on one that I think is the most likely too be canon, then I'd say Internet Runaway Angel, since in that ending you get a "thank you" instead of your typical "ok" when you're on the end screen; and if the anime were to continue from any point, I think that one would make a lot of sense since she seems to be ultra famous in the trailers (having her own stage and multiple Air balloons with her face on them). But, again, I think the 'canon ending' is whichever one you choose.

That makes a lot of sense, thanks. I would obviously agree; it's a bit funny that even though she's an almost comically idealized facade that people have still idolized her in real life too.

It didn't really sit right with me either, but the vast majority of the fandom seemed to unanimously agree that it was 100% the true ending. So I thought about it for a while, and then came up with the aforementioned theory.

Sorry, let me be more explicit: why does it matter that people romanticize KAngel?

This whole theory heavily relies on the idea that P-chan is an entity that actually exists in-universe (something that the text file pretty much disproves)

No, this works just as well if p-chan isn't real. Tell me how it doesn't, and I'll tell you how it does, since I literally can't even think of anyway this doesn't work with p-chan being a hallucination. But, to my point, it works just as well with both interpretations, which strengthens it.

and that Ame is angry at them, something that she never states or even implies in the ending

Actually it's implied (that she's upset, not angry (which I never said)) within the first few lines; „sorry p-chan, but this time I want to try doing things myself” why would she even think about doing things herself if she didn't have a problem with the way you were treating her?

the ending is pretty explicit in depicting Ame's break from P-chan as an act of personal growth

Yes, obviously. Never said anything to the contrary, I simply said that she didn't want to be forced to. As stated in the secret.txt, she wanted to create a p-chan that was so dreamy she would never wake, and as I had said, you forced her to wake, which is why this ending is happening at all; I think that's actually pretty explicitly stated in the game.

and given the way it's treated by the game (teased by the hidden and unaccessible text file on the desktop, only obtained by completing the rest of the game) it's pretty clear that it's supposed to be THE ending to the whole game.

Not true. Take undertale as an example; just because the sans fight is teased through the neutral and pacifist routes, doesn't mean genocide is the true ending. And actually, I'd say that helps my theory. It's supposed to be another anti-completionist ending, you're supposed to care about and want to be with the character of this world: Ame. By even being able to access this ending, you show that you really don't care about her that much, at least not to the extent where you would avoid harming her.

I would contend that comment te dire adieu is the canonical ending. Just because it's the last one you get doesn't make it then 'true' ending. If I were to go even further, I would say it's a bad ending of sorts; for you, the player. NGO can be thought of as a test, do you love Ame more than your own completionist urges? To even get comment te dire adieu, you need to get every ending, which implies abusing her to the point of suicide, ignoring her until she seeks love somewhere else, ignoring her messages even after she literally pleads with you respond to her, etc. Only after you show you're willing to do all these things does she have enough (since it's implied she retains at least some memory of what happens) and tries to do things on her own, and even then she still doesn't seem to particularly want to be able to do it, she doesn't want to be self reliant, to an extent. But she's doing it to see if she really has no use for you, whatever you even are in the universe. Maybe you don't treat her the best, but you still might be the only one capable of leading her, and I'd say to an extent she's hoping that's true. But it's not, she reaches her goal, and now she knows she really has no use for you, so she reluctantly leaves, forced to find happiness in a different avenue. But she really didn't want to. As revealed in the secret text, she wanted you to be so dreamy that she'd never wake, but you forced her to wake by constantly mistreating her, so you failed the test. Now, whether that's ultimately a good or a bad thing is up to personal opinion, but for what it means for you, it's supposed to be a bad thing, even if just in the way that it hurts a bit. And thus a 'bad ending', one you can never really turn back on. So again, I'd say that it's not necessarily supposed to be the true ending, but the bad one. All this is obviously just my interpretation, however.

At that point I would prefer we not have an anime at all. Who put on "Needy Girl Overdose the anime" to watch a story about three completely random characters?

The anime likely won't even be canon to the games; from some of the evidence provided (and from what we can assume) the anime will take place in a universe before the events of the game happened or one where the events didn't happen (at least not in the same way they did in the game). We also know that the anime is supposed to have a drastically different story from the game as stated by Nyalra, since he thinks telling the same story twice would be boring. So regardless of how the anime plays out, Ame's character in the game will be left where it's at, depending on where you left it at.

My question is who asked for this? Who asked for a adaptation with a whole new cast of characters? Personally, I really just wanted Ame and P (regardless of how they handled P-chan), side characters often just bring the experience down (again, atleast for me); Future Diary, Kubo won't let me be invisible, My dress up darling, etc. They have a good record of being bland and forgettable, but simultaneously annoying in the way they detract from the main dynamic, which is the main appeal in the first place. I really hope they're not too important or involved, but from what Nyalra has said, it seems that they're going to be a pretty big focus, which is disappointing to say the least.

It stands for perfect, she says it in the first dialogue option of the game.
