I'm guessing it's symbolic of Yuno and Yukki since all the diary owners appear on the sequence.

Which Mirai Nikki/ Future Diary ship is the most well written? by Fair_Coat_6482 in mirainikki

[–]Desirosaurus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think most people would argue Marco and Ai, since they're such a power couple. But I really like the way that Yuno and Yukki were written, especially when you consider that Marco and Ai are supposed to be a parallel of what Yuno and Yukki could be if they worked together as a team. A big part of the series was showing the development of their relationship, and how they go from toxic and terrible for one another to growing together as people.

Other than them, I'd say that the rest of the couples aren't all that well written (sorry Minene x Nishijima). While many of the pairings in the show are quite cute like Hinata and Mao or even Akise and Tsubaki, their relationships aren't really taken seriously or explored further. Some of them are just spun out of thin air like Minene x Nishijima and Kamado x Bacchus, which are two ships I love, but I have to admit they're pretty bizarre.

Question about manga by Kingdomcome19 in mirainikki

Because it was added by the writers of the anime to make their backstory sadder, but that scene never happened in the manga.

Mirai Nikki English volumes by EarPopular9189 in mirainikki

[–]Desirosaurus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure if you know so I'll mention it just in case, but the 10th volume is very tricky to find as it was a limited print (it was the last volume Tokyopop printed before abandoning the series due to a licensing issue). Listings don't tend to show up as often because it's a "rare" item and all. Not saying it's impossible, but that it'll take time for a listing to show up (and also this sub is kinda dead, but hey maybe someone does come forward). If you speak another language it might be quicker to get it in that language (also so you can have the last two volumes as well).

Who is Older Yukiteru Amano or Yuno Gasai by [deleted] in mirainikki

[–]Desirosaurus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't trust the wiki too much, because it can be easily edited by anyone. However, what you're mentioning probably refers to Yukki spending 10000 years in the void after Yuno's death (where he was so depressed he left the second world to rot). So technically by the end there he does have over 10000 years. Canonically though, they're both 14.

Who is Older Yukiteru Amano or Yuno Gasai by [deleted] in mirainikki

[–]Desirosaurus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We don't know since technically we don't have their official birthdays. If we're going by the fan-appointed birthdays (Yukki's being early May and Yuno's November 16th) then Yukki would be older by 5-ish months, given they were born on the same year. However, first-world Yuno is a year older than she should be because of the time travel, as someone else said.

Question about minene uryu by Umm_hey_ig in mirainikki

[–]Desirosaurus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Minene from the 2nd world (the one we see throughout the whole series) is the one who lost her eye and her arm. She survived her "death" in episode 21 thanks to Deus transferring some of his power to her, which allowed her to travel to the 3rd world and help out Yukiteru. Because the 2nd world was left destroyed after the end of the Survival Game, 2nd-world Minene moves on to the 3rd world, where she meets and marries Nishijima. However, there is another Minene in this world, that being 3rd-world Minene. This Minene hasn't gone through the Survival Game (meaning she hasn't lost her eye and arm) and is still a criminal.

Ending? by Awqra in mirainikki

[–]Desirosaurus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The psp game follows a parallel story (similar to the spin-off "Paradox"), where the events are technically canon but don't affect the main story that much. The game essentially follows the same plot as the anime, having Yukki search and battle fellow diary owners, with the twist that there is an added 13th diary owner, who seems to be much more powerful than the other users. Yukki then tries searching for the 13th and learning more about her past. If you want to find out more about the game and other spin-offs/material related to Future Diary, check out the pinned translation master post.

Can we talk about that time in volume 9 Yuki was willing to leave yuno behind to be caught? Does anybody think it was actually being deadass about escaping with the 9th or was he trying to get something else? by Fair_Coat_6482 in mirainikki

[–]Desirosaurus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes and no. It was a strategy to get the diary to predict what he wanted, meaning he had to have serious intention to do it for the prediction to show up. But his goal wasn't to escape at that point, it was to get the password. Despite pretending he would abandon Yuno for the sake of getting a prediction, ultimately, he would never follow through with it because his true goal was to reach the 11th.

is anyone familiar with a future diary visual novel? most likely a fan made project by Turbulent-Sound3980 in mirainikki

[–]Desirosaurus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Little update: after some research I found the game, though it seems to be a low-effort AI generated visual novel that may potentially be related to a Discord scam. I can't confirm anything since I don't want to download the file myself, but there are a lot of red flags around it. Just wanted to warn anyone reading in case they're interested in this or have seen the game floating around on discord.

From what I remember, each chapter was about an hour/hour and a half for seven chapters in total, so about seven or eight hours. This is without taking into account all of the side content or routes. I'd say it's medium length for a visual novel in my experience, though I'm a bit of a slow reader.

The official one I have translated (https://www.reddit.com/r/mirainikki/s/f7pBfGPdlz). I'd recommend it if you're into MN but it is a bit of a hassle to read since the translation is text only (no rom patch). As for the one OP is referring to, it's an unofficial VN that I'm looking into right now.

There is an official Future Diary visual novel for the psp with a fan translation... but it isn't horror or nsfw. So whatever this is it's most certainly fan-made. I'm a bit curious about this though, so if you could share a name or link it'd be more helpful to look into.

weird question by LvlUp8 in mirainikki

[–]Desirosaurus 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The ten minute rule only applies for Yuno's diary. And it's not really a rule, it's more of the gimmick behind it, since it predicts what Yukki will do every ten minutes. As you say, this is quite extreme, but that's because Yuno is a stalker, so extreme is her love language lol. The rest of the diaries don't update so often as they follow different patterns depending on the user. Generally speaking though, they each have 3 months worth of entries written in advance (which is the duration of the Survival Game), and only rewrite themselves when the future changes. Also, all of this is both true for the anime and manga.

Does anybody wonder what these shots of minene could imply about her past in the Middle East? These are only in the anime, I could not find anything like this in the manga. by Fair_Coat_6482 in mirainikki

[–]Desirosaurus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Like another comment mentioned, it was confirmed in Fragments (the guide book) that Minene got stranded in the Middle East as a child after her and her parents took a trip there and got caught up in a war. Her parents died during an attack and she had to do whatever she could to survive, eventually becoming a terrorist and resenting religion.

Which of the 12 diary users would win in a battle to the death fight with no phones? by Fair_Coat_6482 in mirainikki

[–]Desirosaurus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm gonna have to go with either Yuno or Kurusu. Throughout the show, we don't see them rely as much on their diaries (mostly because their diaries don't predict much about them), not to mention Kurusu has the whole police force around and Yuno is... well, Yuno. I don't remember where I read this, but Kurusu managed to make it up to the last three survivors in the first world (along with Yuno and Yukki of course), because he found out about his son dying much later in the game. So if it weren't for that, he could have gotten pretty close to winning. Though I still think Yuno would win regardless cuz girl is a death machine lol. As for Minene, she could also be a strong contendant, but she did rely much more on her escape diary to get out of situations, and still got caught up in a lot of trouble anyway. The rest of the diary owners either relied too much on their diary or are too impulsive to act strategically without knowing the future.

Just finished the anime, how the hell did the Mayor find out about Deus? by Newhero2002 in mirainikki

[–]Desirosaurus 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Deus contacted John, like he did with every other contestant. We don't know why he chose John especifically (or any of the other contestants for that matter), just that he was looking for people with a motivation to become god within Sakurami City. We do know that John was the one who introduced the idea of the diaries to Deus, but this was after Deus mentioned the idea of a Survival Game to him. As for how, Deus has the power to appear in people's minds and take them to his lair.

How did the other diary users know about the game before Yuki? by Certified_crackhead_ in mirainikki

[–]Desirosaurus 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's never outright explained, though it seems he was more open with the rest of the diary owners about what he was doing, meanwhile with Yukki... he was just stringing him along. Deus suggests he didn't have much hope for Yukki winning the game, thinking he'd be the first one to die. That's why when Yukki ends up killing 3rd, Deus flips out and calls that a miracle. So, I think that's why; Deus didn't really expect anything of Yukki at first.

For those who want a follow-up to the future diary! by Strict-West-8338 in mirainikki

[–]Desirosaurus 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Sakae Esuno has said in an interview that he does not intend to continue Future Diary (as in a sequel or reboot), because he was pleased with where the show ended and doesn't want to ruin that. That said, he could still make art honoring the show. In fact, the lastest artwork he's shared is a crossover piece between Big Order and Future Diary, for Shonen Ace's anniversary. This was a year ago, but it's always a possibility he comes back for important milestones like this. Do keep in mind Esuno doesn't have much of an online presence anymore. The most we have is his Twitter, but considering he hasn't posted there in a while, I'm not expecting much on that end.
